My friend who did the hsc last year is letting me use her module A english essay for my hsc, I think it is very good and I want to keep the same quotes and techniques, and I want to use the descriptive words she uses because they make the essay seem more sophisticated. Is this plagiarism?

Who cares, the markers mark around 30,000 essays. No one is going to notice.

Dude they mark heaps of essays, no one will notice.
They will notice if it is a good essay.

Don't do it, it isn't worth the risk.

imo use it as a guide, don't copy it but just use it to see how a good one is made.

can they tell if you've used past students' work?
Extremely unlikely. Lets say, by freak chance that the same person who marked your friends paper last year marks yours, its highly unlikely that they will remember it considering they mark hundreds if not thousands of papers.

lol mate it's your choice if you wanna do it, but rest assured the consequences are there, and it's pretty possible that they can pick it up. i figure they have methods of sorts.

the hsc teachers don't have a plagiarism detecting system unlike uni which uses turnitin

so you're pretty "safe" if its not from spark notes and other study guides

It's plagiarism.

Paraphrasing is also plagiarism.
