As you know I want to drop IPT, if I do so I will go to 10units.

What would the chances be if I 'mess' up?? I do very well in Business, economics, legal and maths (English I am so-so, ranked 5th also it is Standard :( )

(I am in year 11)

Well, what ATAR do you want? If you want 99+, the risk will be higher than if you want say... 55.

I want 90 + (89 is needed for my Uni course, but best to aim high)

Also my IPT teacher never has lesson plans, and uses a 10 year old textbook.

(She also picks favorites, usually me)

And are you a good student or a mediocre one...?

Lots of things determine it. But 2 bad units out of 10 will hamper you lots. Probably... up to 5 or 6 ATAR points, perhaps.

ahaha it's IPT man, keep it if its not significantly draining your study time. It should be easy enough for the average person, just try hard, pay attention in class and you should be fine. But if you hate it, then you may as well drop it. You won't get far by hating a subject. It's good to have some form of back up, just in case you do screw up something, you won't feel all depressed.

IPT is not a tough subject. Personally I would keep it, do well! compared to other subjects it's much easier to obtain a 90+ in IPT - it will help with your final ATAR score.

You might as well take IPT since you're doing very well in all your other subjects. It won't really make a difference. If I were you, I'd take IPT just to be safe.

sorry, but i was thinking along the same lines, would you say i should keep cafs?
i mean, i could drop it, and then i would have 11 units, and i do maths ext, eng adv, chem, bio, sor II.
should i? i mean it is such a freaking easy subject, i have been getting full marks this year, and haven't even read the textbook before?
what do you guys think?

Well there may not be much point keeping IPT as English ALWAYS counts. You should be using a tonne of time to work on your english.

hey what about 11 units? if I get 100% in every subject but bomb out in one, how will that affect my ATAR? (as in 9 good units and one bad one)

Negatively. It's like if you have a 1 unit subject that you do crap in and you do 10 units only.

I really wanna drop chem because i'm terrible at it but then I have 10 units

And out of the 10u that i'd be keeping, i'm not confident with adv. eng and religion [3/10 units]

This is lame. Safer to keep 12u or do 10 and focus on my dodgy subject(s)?

If you're terrible at it - drop it because you're wasting time, then focus on your other subjects. If it may end up counting - then don't drop it, because it'll boost your ATAR.

but to what extent? 1, 2, 5 ATAR points?
Depends. You can't really quantify it.

If you dont like it and think that it isnt going to count, drop it and give yourself more time.
