ok, so hypothetically, you're coming first in a subject with an internal mark of 95%.....
then, lets say, you dont get the highest external examination mark but the person ranked 2nd gets it...

lets just say that mark is 90%....because that mark is lower than your original internal mark does that mean your internal mark just stays at 95% or drops down to 90%

Your internal mark makes little difference - you generally get roughly the highest Exam Mark. It could be anything.

Your internal assessmernt is moderated to 90. The mark of 95 is only "valid" within your school. It is like school dollars that have to be converted to HSC dollars.

you got the person ranked 2nd's external mark placed as your internal mark as theirs was higher... however person coming 2nd still gets to keep their external mark as their's... that is if no one below them got higher in externals.. otherwise the same rules would apply..

its confusing and some people think it is unfair.. but 2nd person still keeps their marks they worked for its not like they are giving them away and getting someone else's entirely.

I would actually say that you have one large error - giving the 2nd ranked person the 2nd ranked exam mark as that isn't what happens. The internal marks have a gap of 5 marks and that 5 mark gap will be maintain but due to aliging will probably actually be reduced so at worst the 2nd ranked person would have an exam mark of 96 and an internal moderated mark of 91 (maintaining the 5 mark gap sent in by the school) which would average to 94

haha yeah i realise there were errors... however i was trying to just show the general idea of external marks.. minus the scaling and averaging.. which i probably should of incorporated in the moderated internal marks.. but oh well

This, first internally gets the highest external mark whilst last internally gets the lowest external mark. Those in between are moderated to reflect the relative gaps between each student.
