I have a friend who tried out every single year (6, 7, 8, 9 and 10) and even this year, he's in Year 10, he didn't make it in while for me, this year was my first year trying out and I made it. To be honest, I didn't expect to have an offer from HAHS and I was ready to go to Syd Tech 100% until the Hurlstone letter came. And no, I haven't made up my mind... Around 11 - 13 people including me from my current school received offers from Hurlstone so about the position being rare, doesn't seem so to me (apparently they accepted 25 - 30 people this year for Yr 11 entry) xD I'd gladly give my offer away to my friend if I could but it doesn't work like that unfortunately D: I know alot of people who desperately want the offer and I wish I could give my spot to a friend or someone I know...

Yes guys, I am aware that the asian environment at Hurlstone is quite large in comparison to Sydney Tech which is most likely why Hurlstone ranks higher usually.
its a hard decision but its better to go to a school with the people/friends you already know so you dont feel isolated, and HAHS is a strong academic school, high ranking because they help each other out, full of smart people. my cousin is from st george girls and she said syd tech are full of jerks... :S

Hurlstone is around 90 percent asians though, just to let you know, which is great because they're much harder working on average than others/
Sydney Tech is 90% Asian too. I go there.

Hmm, not too sure about how smart the grade is. However, there are no hard kunts in the grade. The only bad thing about the grade is this Zyzz-wannabe group in year 10, filled with really skinny asian kids who think they're massive, and relate everything to bodybuilding. They're nice, just really embarassing that I go to the same school as them.
Too true, mate. Too true.

YAY! Finally, a Year 10 person from Sydney Tech!
Can you tell me anything about your grade?
What's the overall performance of the grade in terms of academics? Strong, moderate or weak? Competitive? Comparison to previous years?
Do you think that the Syd Tech Year 11 2012 cohort will/might be able to pull up the school's ranking back to top 20 (or at least have a chance to)?
So the cohort is predominately asian? Is 90% a near-accurate percentage? xD

Finally, which school would you choose if you were me? (Note: Agriculture will be compulsory in HAHS for the HSC)
I really need help as I have to decide within 1 week =="

If you really don't want to do Ag, go to Tech.

I'd never go to an Ag school unless I could have accerated it in 9/10 to get it out of the way. (Ok, maybe Ruse may be an exception but still :p)

I don't despise Ag but I don't know if it's worth doing just for being in a school ranked a bit higher...

^Well to me, being able to do the subjects you want is more important to a degree than school rank. I mean unless the school is like over 150 ranks below or something, then you should go with the school with the better subject options for you.

Have you seen the HSC papers for Ag? Urgh. Unless you love science, DON'T GO TO HURLSTONE! But yeah, in contrast, since everyone's there you should go there. And if you're sick of seeing the colour red, then Hurlstone it is :)

Hurlstone's current principal was the ex-deputy of Ruse I think but that's kinda irrelevant. 12 ranks is indeed quite apart in terms of selective but school rankings won't affect your ATAR that much (VERY VERY LITTLE) (if at all) when you go to a selective school within the top 50... Also, I need to know the Year 12 2013 cohort of Sydney Tech and Hurlstone in terms of their strengths and academics. Predicted cohort strength (Future) > Previous school rankings (Past and Present)

well if you want to know the schools academics, its usually shown through the school ranks.
LOL! well it really depends on you. you cant really predict how well those co horts are going unless you go there..
which school are you thinking you might attend? Id go hurlstone because i know alot of people who are brilliantly academic, I wouldn't mind ag at all since people go in there and do ag normally and well !. Im not so sure about tech though..but you shouldve tried out for higher selective schools taking into consideration u got into those 2 schools :)

It's very relevant.

Basically the school is only a shadow of the awesomeness it was before.

The girl I tutor from Hurlstone said she was going to drop Ag, so you must be able to drop it?
