yeah first time in a long time we have seen a big partnership like this for the australian team. this is what we will need to do in the ashes in 2013.

he would have to work really hard on his fitness though. bcuz by the time the ashes roll around he will be 40 years old.

Re: The Official Cricket Thread

anyone think Clarke will reach a double century?

edit: is it racist that every time the commentators say the name "Sharma" in my head I think "Shama-lama-ding-dong"

I highly doubt he'll get there because, like you said, he'll declare before that happens.

He'd rather give Australia a chance of winning than get a personal milestone.

Roughly the same age as Waugh when he retired and generally speaking Ponting has always been more athletic than Waugh was, also in reality I reckon 40 year old Ponting would be more athletic than thirty five year old Lehman, Taylor or Warne. More of a question of whether his eye and his reflexes will keep to that age, with batting if these things hold out a player can keep going for ages. See Mark Ramprakash, still killing it in fc cricket at 42, never had the ability to be a top class test batsman but if anything is playing better now than when he was 30.

I don't like him, but... I don't know if I can bring myself to not at least have tons of respect and awe for a triple-centurion.

Why would he declare so early? Really if Australia can't bowl India out in two whole days they don't particularly deserve to win.

it's still india, world cup winner with tendulkar/sehwag etc, so i s'pose they're still a bit wary instead of being overconfident.

although india is painfully embarassing to watch at this point
