these are my subjects: MX1, adv. english, chem, bio, 1U religion, business studies.
i am currently doing 12 units in my hsc year. i am contemplating whether or not i should drop business. i really want to do medicine in uni (hence the bio and chem), but i am sort of skeptical that i will actually get 99.95. i dont want extra worry for a subject that might not even count. but if i dont get into medicine, i think i would like to do commerce or something at uni.
do you think i will be better off dropping business studies?

Yes that is true. At this point of time, a high ATAR is ultimately your MAIN priority in your academic life. You can always take bridging courses at your chosen university if you don't have the assumed knowledge gained from studying a certain subject in high school. It depends on whether you a confident with your 10 units. If you drop business studies, are you very sure that you can excel in your other subjects? It can be very risky but highly beneficial. These are the things you must consider.

With the subject combination you have yes. Dropping Business Studies is a good decision, although it's a relatively easy subject in comparison to the choices you got. I found business having the smallest amount of work load during my hsc. But it's a subject you can do well in so think carefully, I found that with minimal study you could easily achieve band 5 in business and if you spent 1hr a day you could easily get 6. Shouldn't need it for commerce but it could assist in some of your majors such as accounting and etc. lol
