THe belonging creative I have written reads like a reflection.... Is this bad? It's loosely a story.

It's about losing belonging to place and accepting it.

Also there is only on character and written in third person i think ( i could remember, use to be the place )

I don't think that's a bad thing. I've read a lot of creatives that scored 13+/15 that were shaped like a reflection. Having said that, English provides a lot of lee-way in terms of the creative - so long as it incorporates the themes and concepts associated to belonging.

I think you're creative is fine.

Good.

It does have a plot but it seems really short.

The plot however is super simple and not at all complex

I remember writing a story about prison - it was largely reflection and I received 13/15. In the end, I don't think it really matters.

that really depends on what you have written, not necessarily the idea itself

A reflection seems fine, as long as you can write it so that it isn't the same contrived thing that most people would do. For example, avoid clichéd plot devices such as death, suicide and angsty melodrama, but if there's only one character being your protagonist that should be fine. Remember to use patterns of imagery that relate to the plot and also add to the story's overall meaning as a creative writing on the topic of belonging. Markers love to see patterns of imagery, and it is entirely possible to use the place (if it's a specific place) which your protagonist doesn't belong to as a symbol. What for, that's up to you.

Good luck with the story/reflection.

It could work well, it's all about the execution.

Some high scoring creatives weren't the conventional beginning/middle/end with a focus on the narrative. Some are more introspective and reflective, and focus less on plot and more on feelings and portray the concept slightly more abstractly.

Oh. It's not about death, boyfriends, suicide etc my teacher said she will give zero to anyone who hands a story like that in.

It's a reflection of place. So I guess that it may be sort of limited to what I can adapt it to question wise. ( unused the 2011 English USC question )

By the way i got 10/15 for my speech. I only lost marks for my oral side and a bit for expression. But still good n

My creative is about the immigrant experience from Vietnam, the journey to freedom and obstacles faced to get there.

The plot goes along the lines of a child whom opposes strongly the Communist regime and joins pro-Communist Youth groups with his best friend and eventually they become a leading member. The persona does a lot to advertise against Communism by putting damp leaflets on his school rooftop and as it dries, it is spreads throughout the suburb, they put leaflets in school drawers, cupboards and toilets. Later on, they are accused of being anti-Communist and are found guilty however they escape Vietnam just in time by boat in search of freedom. They reflect on what they left behind, their family and the Vietnamese culture.

There are some grammar mistakes in the summary because I'm writing from my iPod.

There is a lot of possibilities available with creative writing, so reflection is OK provided it is done well.

That's what english creative writing is about. My english teacher is always saying it's the depth, not how intricate the plot is. Like, she had seen a creative writing whose plot consisted of someone standing outside of a door of a family reunion. But the depth and emotion shown in that piece of writing was what enabled them to receive a really good mark.

Yes what is patterns of imagery. I it something like reoccurring images which are sequenced by descriptive language ?

Oh. I said there is only one character I meant to say there is but I make reference to memories of others ( I remember my friend we love to play here and such (obviously not a extract) but is this fine. The references have no lines etc. )

This is perfectly fine just make sure to throw in lots of imagery, symbolism, metaphors, similes etc. Try and have atleast some sort of twist, climax or realization which the character has - this will really take it from a B to an A.

Imagery is descriptive or figurative language. A pattern of imagery is any recurring set of images that are used to further the symbolism present in a story. It's a little hard to explain but one example is the image of the gate in the poems of Peter Skrzynecki to represent exclusion from society. It becomes a pattern of imagery because it appears in several of his poems to represent the same concept.

Hopefully that helps.

It's a reflection...but it's written in 3rd person? Hmm...

Whenever I wrote stories like that, they were self-reflective and in first person.

Having a simple plot is a good idea, your not meant to tell the Lord of the Rings in 1000 words lol.

it's "write a creative piece", not "write a story"

you don't even need a plot really

whether or not YOU can make it work is a different thing entirely though
