Mine was sort of like a reflection (although I don't remember cause I made it up on the spot in the exam), and it got 13.5/15. It was written in second person and was about an immigrant's experiences, sort of flashing between LAX airport and her home in Lagos.

Imagery is descriptive or figurative language. A pattern of imagery is any recurring set of images that are used to further the symbolism present in a story. It's a little hard to explain but one example is the image of the gate in the poems of Peter Skrzynecki to represent exclusion from society. It becomes a pattern of imagery because it appears in several of his poems to represent the same concept.

Hopefully that helps.
So a motif but with images?

Reflections are fine. Just be careful that your reflection doesn't go off into stream-of-consciousness, because that's bad. A lot of reflections do.

What's wrong with writing a stream of consciousness?
