Best 1984 in ext english year 11. Worst Romeo and Juliet in year 9. We had seperate boy and girl english classes in year 8-10 and our delusional teacher actually thought Romeo and Juliet would interest a class full of girls.

Yessss, you're like the only other person I know who actually liked it.

Also I just remembered we read Catch-22 in the HSC Ext. 1 course, and I've already read it and it's my fave, if that counts.

And what's all this hate for Romeo and Juliet, it wasn't even bad. We went and saw the play and everything :)

you obviously don't know many (good) people
animal farm is a fantastic, easy read
and if a 120 page novel is too boring/too long for someone

Heart of Darkness for Ext. 1 this year is the best novel (well, novella) I've got from school.

Worst is either Feather Boy (oh God that was tragic) in year 7, or Holes in year 8.

Everything from year 9 onward has been pretty good.
I've got "Heat of darkness" for ext1 too. seems like a pretty good read

It's really, really great. If you have trouble reading it (quite a large majority in my class did, as it's almost entirely descriptive), I would highly recommend downloading an audiobook and listening along while you read/annotate. Really do think about its context while you are reading it as well, as it was released at the peak of the colonial era and hence was written for pro-colonial imperialists. Much of the racist discourse is really to engage with the audience at the time and subtly convey the underlying post-colonial message.

You liked Tomorrow When the War Began? Hmm, I didn't like it all that much.

It's where I learned the word 'orgy' and silently thought to myself "that pairing of Ellie and Lee... what even".

AND THEN THE SEX SCENE where ellie's like "oh i can imagine making animal noises with homer while lee carresses me" or whatever it was

burned into my memory forever. horrible, horrible memories.

Is Hatchet the one where the guy is in a plane, then it crashes and he has to survive?
Yeah, I think so.. It was pretty terrible to be honest

Yeah, i don't really know, I just did.. I read quite a bit though, so i go through 1-2 books a week (pretty substantial 400-500 page books) so i guess half of the reason i read them was that i had couldn't really find any books that interesting, but i still enjoyed it. It got quite a bit better as they progressed so that sort of made me wanting to keep reading them also..

Just remembered that Aboriginal literature unit we had to do in year 8. "The Girl With No Name" was actually putrid.

I'm all for novels about heritage etc. but it'd be nice if the author could write.
