Is it better to get a high mark in general maths than getting a low mark in 2U maths?

Well what's your definition of a "high" mark and a "low" mark?

Some uni courses have 2U as a prerequisite, whereas I'm pretty sure none require you to have done general - I'd reccomend 2U based solely on that, I don't know about the issue of actual marks though.

If your gonna be getting less than 75 in 2u and more than 85 in General, I think General is the better choice as it will boost your atar as a whole, but if you need 2U for prerequisites then do 2U.

Are you sure? Could you find me some degree programs which have it as a prerequisite?

Probably not prerequisite - but it's at least an acceptable knowledge level to pursue uni level maths.

If these are final HSC marks, then obviously 80/90 in General would probably contribute more to your ATAR than a 60/70 in 2U.

most prereqs. are 4u or 3u
I don't think there are any mainstream/common degrees that have "prerequisites", in NSW. Many have "assumed/recommended knowledge", but rarely any with "prerequisites".

Probably not even a thing for most of you guys here, but Victoria still has a lot of prerequisites. But NSW, not so much, just assumed knowledge.

My guess is a 75 in 2U is more 'valuable' than an 85 in General.

This thread title does not make sense at all.
If you mean "better" in terms of scaling wise, then 2U would trump General over most cases. How much do you value your ATAR?

You should reject this attitude of 'i'm going to fail 2U maths' and instead, focus to improve. That way, you will not have to ask this question if you put the effort to get a high mark in mathematics.

it's very difficult to predict what marks you'll actually get , especially when you don't even know what exactly the subjects are about

which is why the whole 'which subjects should I do' thing [and to some degree, ATAR predictions] doesn't make sense to me

don't let things such as scaling affect your judgement
follow your heart and do the things you like and/or are good at

personally I'd recommend 2u maths over general maths, esp. if you're gonna need some maths in your further studies

if not, it's up to your personal preferrence
