1. How do I rip the hard drive out of it and get all my shit back?

2. What laptop should I buy?
I'm either looking for a cheap and portable laptop, AND a desktop that is good for performance, OR a laptop that is nice and light and portable and good on performance.
My budget is about $1.5k and I can add a few hundred to that over a few weeks.
Also, I can't get a MacBook because my beautiful laser printer doesn't have a driver for macs. But I could possibly get an iMac and then dual boot for printing or get a small netbook for work during uni hours + printing.
Also, my mum is a TAFE teacher and I'm a uni student so I can get whichever one of those has a better discount for Apple stuff, and then go to dicksmith, etc. and get a better discount.

Yay!

Thanks nerds. :)

1. to pull the hard drive out you would need to open it up ( unscrewing it all) and then pulling it out, and the HD will not be like something you can just plug into another computer, Best to take it to someone who can do that, they might even buy the laptop ( after you take the HD,) although im not sure.

2. Look at dick smith, they always have specials on laptops at this time.

good luck!!

hehe.

Doesnt cost much for a SATA cable, or a mate with a 2.5in HD dock.

*hint hint*

Removing the HDD is really easy. On the back of the laptop there is likely a HDD cover, unscrew those 4 screws etc and you can just unplug one cable to get the hard drive out.

This seems alright, but nothing compared to their series 9 laptops (but that's out of your budget)
13.3inch Performance Notebook (530U3B-A01AU) $1.5k
try finding other 'ultrabooks'

Not the most useful post as the deal is over but I was extremely happy with the XPS17 I got on an end of financial year deal recently...something like 1200 for a 17.3" FHD screen, 1.5Tb HD, 8G ram, decent 3gig video card etc. The speakers on this thing are amazing too.

6-8 hours on average when doing normal things. when playing games or anything that require the graphics card it would probably be closer to 2. Very few things require the use of the graphics card though so I am very pleasantly surprsed at how long it lasts.

So happy with the purchase.
