Re: Drug Decriminalisation

theres a big difference between decriminalisation and legalisation

decriminalisation means that you won't get arrested for posesion or if so only lightly, cops can still seize drugs and dealing still carries offences (this is subjective)

legalisation means you can practically walk down the street smoking a joint

personally i think we should decriminalize all drugs but legalisation is a different issue all together.

Pot is already decriminalised in the ACT; in fact you can grow up to 2 plants in your backyard (if you get caught you have to go to 1 rehab session and pay a small fine)

World hasn't collapsed there yet

Farout just make medical cannabis legal Australia you blind phaggots.
So many people including some members of my family could highly benefit from cannabis, where other 'legal' prescription drugs makes their conditions worse with highly adverse side effects which has a high potential to be lethal in the future after prolong use.
Stupid pharma companies paying the government to restrict them from legalising medical cannabis.

Why would they prescribed drugs if it makes their condition worse

why would they not discontinue use

how does medicinal marijuana do anything better

And pharmaceutical companies would make a fucking *killing* if medicinal marijuana was legalised because it would be ridiculously regulated and only the best (biggest) producers would be able to create it

that and I doubt it's all that expensive to grow and cultivate

Pot should be legal to posses and cultivate in small quantities although still illegal to distribute.

Shit shit shit okay.

First of all, legalisation does not imply that the government approves of your choices to do drugs. It just says that they are allowing you to make that choice for yourself. Why can't you make that choice? Why is the government allowed to tell you what it is and isn't okay to put into your body?

Yeah it can be destructive, but isn't that a choice for the individual to make?

I want to make an even bigger point though: Laws do not fucking work. Prohibition does not work. Making something illegal doesn't make it go away. Not once has a law prohibiting a particular action ever made people stop doing it. We have laws against murder and rape and arson, but people still do it. The people who would take drugs are already on them.

No, in fact, laws against drugs just don't fucking work. So why make it illegal? It's not going to solve the problem. In fact laws against drugs just makes the drug industry worse, as it creates underground black markets and gangs and unreliable retailers and unreliable products etc.

If we make drugs legal we can regulate the industry and give people who choose to take drugs a safer and more reliable option when deciding to buy drugs. Do you purchase them legally, safely, where you know what is in your product, where you know what you are paying for and what you put into your body? Or do you buy them from some dodgy junkie on the street? Right now we don't have a choice.

Should governments, police officers and laws be able to have control over what is okay for you to put in your own body? Is this not supposed to be a free country? If you can get criminally charged for making a choice to induce a particular state of mind via a particular substance of your own accord with your own free will, that is not a free country. That is fascism. That is authoritarianism,

Why is it a criminal offence to make the personal choice to take drugs? Is it really ethical to criminally charge people who make such a choice? Can you really look at someone who likes to smoke marijuana or snort cocaine every once and a while and say "well, he was a criminal, he deserved to be jailed for what he did". What? Are you fucking serious?

There are SO MANY compelling reasons to legalise drugs. I think i've made my point.

And then theres economical reasons:

The government is putting so much money into enforcing drug laws, which don't work, against industries which the government do not make a cent in taxes from.

The solution? Legalise drugs and tax the industry. That way we can stop spending taxpayers money on making drugs illegal, and make tax dollars by legalising them.

Kill two birds with one stone there. I knew I left something crucial out.

Re: should drugs be illegal

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2013/04/majority-now-support-marijuana-legalization-poll-finds/

For years, supporters of marijuana legalization have pointed to polls trending their way, claiming the issue was about to tip as favorable to a majority of Americans.
Now, their prediction has finally come true.
For the first time, a major U.S. poll shows a majority of nationwide support for legalizing marijuana: 52 percent now back legalized pot, compared with 45 percent who oppose it, according to a new survey from the Pew Research Center. Pew has been asking about marijuana since 1969, when only 12 percent thought it should be legal, and 84 percent said it shouldn’t be.

Australian culture is really behind the zeitgeist on this issue.

It's weird because everyone uses illicit drugs, generally people believe there should be one rule for themselves, and a seperate set of rules for everyone else.

Not going to have drug ridden addicts taking hospital beds. If its legal I don't care what sort of tax go on drugs. No entry to hospitals. Does that sound good?
