Hi Guys,
I totally screwed up in my half yearlies in majority of subjects!

Got legal back today, and only managed 39/50 :(
Is it still possible to have a high atar of above 95?
IS IT TOO LATE?
Im SOO STRESSED ATM! WHAT IF MY ATAR TURNS OUT SO BAD THAT I HAVE TO BECOME A FARMER!???!!!
HELP!

Haha don't sorry i'm screwed too, and my subjects scale HORRIBLY!
It all really depends on the weight of your half yearly assessment and how you went in relation to the rest of your class!

I am not here to give you sympathy, as you may have hoped for, but to give you the reality. I understand that this might be a huge setback if you are planning for 99.95 ATAR or something, but keep in mind that 39/50 is a great result for many people. You are being arrogant and unreasonable when you talk about being a farmer. Firstly, your ATAR does not mean all that much. While in university, you can change courses and there are many decent courses that have ATARs of 80+. I predict that you are asian and have been pressured by your parents, your friends, your school and most evidently, yourself. You may have been instructed that it is important that you get an amazing ATAR and that if this is not possible you will not earn good amounts of $$$, will not be respected in society, and hence you will have no reason to live. This idea is completely incorrect, and there are indeed many options in life if your ATAR isn't the greatest. Call my racist if you wish for saying this, and I shall not be affected at all, for I am not a racist in any way. However, I am not here only to critise you. I too, have high expectations of myself and am not entirely pleased with my performance in my half yearlies. But do not fear, for there is still a long way to go. I'm sure you're an intelligent kid, so do the maths. There is more than half a year until we do our HSC. Focus on your trials from here on in, as they will be an important contributor to your internal rank, which is very important. If you are looking to come first, then maybe that is not possible. But if you are looking to improve your marks, then that is very possible. Just slowly work away at each of your subjects, and i'm sure you'll get there in the end :)

"mathematics" is completely right?

You shoudll not be so worried, especially at this stage in the Year, you have a lot to imporve and get your ranks high, but this is totally up to you, to put in the effort, people here can only tell you what is right to do? but it is all up to you, to work hard and get the Atar, you. If you think, by waiting here all day, guess what this will not even increase your Atar, by an amount.

So get motivated, work hard, do all your Homework, practice questions and Take rest after all, I mean seriously, you can be killing yourself by studying every single minute.:read: Study but ensure to take rest, so you can work hard next time.

Take care, lol

Good luck in your studies, If you have an further questions, please feel free to PM. ;)

Thanks guys and thanks makematics.
Yeahhs I guess that is true, there is a long way to go and not all hope is lost.
Not the best of days today:
Got legal back with not the best mark.
Got economics back, also not so great with 41.5/59. Although people may think it is not a bad mark, it is relatively bad compared to what I would usually get and it did have a big effect on my ranking. Was coming 1st, dropped down to 6th :(
Then also found out that my Economics teacher is transferring to another school, and we are left with no teacher for a while until they find one that is qualified to teach Economics as well
But thanks again! Made me see that there is hope :)

@Mac1996 Dude it's not hard to get 90's atar with those subjects at all
She has 3/5 high scaling subjects being adv eng, math and economics. Business studies and legal aren't low scalers, they are average but they are still easy to get band 6's in.

Yes you are in the doomings.... LOOOL jokes thats not a bad result. Given that usually band 6 raw mark cut off for the high scaled subjects e.g. chem-72, physics- 77, MX1-75, MX1-65. You got 78% for your legal task so its no the worse result in the world. Maybe your teachers mark hard. So just work on your mistakes and be anal about your work for no one. There is still hope.

What ranking is your school around? Mine came roughly 20th and I had results much worse than yours. Still managed to achieve an atar over 95.

If I miss 15 out of 70 marks in a physics exam that counts 25% , how badly will this affect my atar? I have major time management issue while writing exams... If I compensate for it by getting really high marks in all other assessments, would this exam be something to worry about? Ps this is with reference to a physics half yearly

Won't matter too much. You'll still have time management issues in your other exams.

Lucky you! My school is ranked 250th so I don't think my school rank will help me that much :S

And because my school rank is roughly around 250th, will that also have an effect on my atar?
