Hey i have jacaranda Physics Prelim course 1, third edition http://catalogimages.johnwiley.com.au/Cover/300W/97807314/9780731408207.jpg

and i was wondering if this is a good textbook for use as a main resource for study in yr 11. it covers all core topics and sub topics:

1. the world communicates
2. electrical energy in the home
3. moving about
4. the cosmic engine

and if anyone knows, are pages xi to xiv the entire HSC prelim Syllabus?

Yes it's a good book. I would recommend you also use KISS notes along with it

No, get physics in focus for a comprehensive yet detailed textbook. Jacaranda is messy imho

i like the jacaranda book, neat, clear diagrams and well layout, it is also written according to syllabus contents page. I was thinking using this and then maybe using detailed summaries alongside? How would you use the textbook to benefit most from it?

Jacaranda preliminary was much better than HSC Jacaranda.

I used Jacaranda as my primary textbook for HSC and got a 92 exam mark.

What I did was read the syllabus dot points, then the information given, then do a detailed summary for the dot point (about one or two pages).

Also, Jacaranda was not very clear on a few concepts, so I had to constantly go to a local library and use get smart or Macquarie Physics to clear things up. I would sometimes use the internet, but minimally as a resource (only when I couldn't find the information anywhere else).

When using Jacaranda, the textbook itself is not always enough. You need to use a few other resources.

If I only used Jacaranda and past papers, without other resources, I would have probably gotten an 87ish.

It is always useful to use several different resources rather then just rely on one sole textbook, I would recommend in2physics-the preliminary book as another very good reference book to learn and make your notes from:)

As many as you need. I recommend keeping them as short as possible, but covering all dot points in detail.

I only made notes for the first and third module and had around 80 pages (however my notes were too dense and summarised all the things out of syllabus as well). Plus, I didn't read the notes in the end for final exam. I just did past papers.
