I was pathetic at piano grades (couldn't even do grade 5 lmao) but I enjoy music. I play for leisure now (Coldplay woooo), provided I have time

I'll share my story with the piano and the AMEB exams.

I have to be honest with myself, I never really liked piano. In fact, I hated it with a passion. Even though I was considered to be talented with playing the musical instrument ever since I started when I was 8, I just didn't have the motivation because I was lazy, but I would always do well in by exams by relying on my 'natural ability'. During Preliminary to Grade 5 this worked to my favour, however I finally got caught up in my Grade 6 exam where I didn't do that great, even though I passed (Yes I am referring to my previous post).

It was before the Grade 6 exam that I actually stopped playing piano for- laziness, lack of motivation- because I felt that I wouldn't get anything good out of it. I thought I made the right decision, but it was one I would come to regret in the future. During that time, I realized how fortunate I was to be able to play piano since no one else in my family could and I had to be appreciative with what I had, so I decided to return to piano and I haven't looked back since.

Now I play piano not just because I have to, but because I enjoy it. And that's something I still hold on to today as I now have a positive mindset to anything that comes in my way.

I started playing piano at probably around 7-8.
At first it seemed "easy" when I started learning the scales and pieces cause I just somehow got into the rhythm.
It sort of motivated me to practice lol (not too much but like 30-40 minutes a day)
Wouldn't say I hate it, but when I started AMEB grades I did great. so great that my music teacher encourage me to skip to 4th grade (it didn't make sense to me lol so I was surprised)
From 4th grade onwards, I started to lack motivation, and I barely practiced cause Classical started to bore me.

I somehow endured my way to 8th grade over the years (I think I was 14-15 years old) without much practice (did like 20-30 minutes a day, like 3-4 days a week)
and yeah I did pretty bad lol (though I still managed to pass)

After that I stopped playing AMEB, then I just went on to playing some pop and anime music cause they were fun :)
I probably spent more time playing those than my whole classical career now.

When I heard my siblings play the piano, I really wanted to learn it because it I liked the sound of it.
So my parents let me, and I started learning. In the first few lessons, I was great at the scales and my teacher often rewarded me with stickers :)
But as I started to actually learn songs, I began to dislike pianoing because I was being forced to play the classical songs.

I soon was unmotivated and didn't want to continue playing anymore. However, my parents didn't let me quit and so I was forced to keep going. I got B+ for most of my grades, then finally I quit at Grade 5 due to familial issues.

I was relived, but alas still forced to play because there was one at home. Not wanting to play the classical songs anymore, I printed and downloaded anime music sheets and loved how I could play them. My passion for piano started again and I have been playing (every day) ever since (quit 6 years ago) :)

My parents made me learn when I was about 7. My teacher moved away, and after a few years I started taking lessons again but I just didn't have the interest in it anymore.

I use to play back in Primary School but I found that singing, percussion (drums) and guitar is more of my style so I stopped. However, from time to time, I just read sheet music to play some songs I like to listen to.
