70-200mm f4 IS. A f2.8 would be better for this situation however weight and price are a factor, moreso weight because i always take my 70-200 with me.

Nope, i don't have an ND. For the last 2 yrs i've been procrastinating my purchase of a LEE slot-in filter set but it is still very expensive even if i import it from the UK.

drifting do u always use a tripod for ur long expo's?
Yep, it's a must.

I tried astro once but i failed because of focusing issues lol. Next time i go to the Blue Mountains and give it a shot with the technique nerd taught me.

^for some long expo's i just put the camera on a ledge or railing and set the timer on.

I don't want to risk my camera falling off lol. Additionally, putting it on a ledge really limits your composition choices so i'd recommend investing in a moderately priced tripod, stay away from cheap crap.
