can u recommend a product then? I googled Bilstein and think they are only for 4x4?

Bilstein made shocks for every performance car imaginable, they're on heaps of factory cars as well like liberty and wrx sti specs. Wouldn't pay all that money for a normal car though lol.

Not sure if your car is a sedan or hatch, you'll need to find the one specific to your car but the prices are roughly the same.

About $500 all up, i can't see $500 worth of labour in it. You could probably get away with doing the rears yourself (fairly easy unless its IRS) and just paying for the fronts to get done. Alternatively, buy the shocks yourself and supply the mechanic to fit them. This should work out a bit cheaper because he'll be up-selling the shocks on top of the labour cost.

Personally I'd rather come across some challenges and learn to work on my car myself rather than get ripped off by a mechanic.

also if you have a parent or relative who knows a thing or two about cars get them to give you guidance.

It's not like that for most people.

Most enthusiasts respect 911 Turbos, air cooled Porsches, e30 m3, e46 m3, e39 etc. and dont like or are impartial to majority of the current Toyota, Mitsubishi, Nissan range. It's just the badge snob cars like base model 3 series, C classes and tasteless cars like the Cayenne which get hate.
