Also i have zee dilemma.
I've pree much didn't do much this weekend (i mean i have a lot of tutoring so i don't have a lot of free time on weekends but i spent 4 hrs yesterday doing only maths :/)
So should i pull an all nighter catching up? or should i not risk looking tired for tomorrow's photos (mind you coz its yr 12 photos, its probs gonna be displayed a lot)

dear chemists, a quick question. Why do we need alkaline environment to test for phosphate ions and why do we need acidic environment to test for sulphate ions?

If you make it acidic, then the substances start reacting with the wrong thing (from memory) for phosphates.

I think for sulfates it doesn't matter, but if you want to distinguish between sulfates and phosphates in the same mixture one has to be acidic and the other basic.
