Re: UNSW chit chat thread 2017

if lectures from most classes are recorded, wouldnt that be a waste since course content doesnt change much?

e.g. the lectures for acct1501 in 2014 sem 1 probably covers the exact same content as the 2016 lectures right?

Many people who sell notes also write the year they did the subject in the title, why is this important ? (for hsc I used notes from 6 years ago lol)

yeah pretty much, sometimes new stuff is added though and changes are made. We have a thing called CATEI which lets you evaluate the course at the end of each sem and lecturers (the good ones) will try to improve the course and content based on feedback for next time.

Ah that makes sense

btw do you really need the $200 textbooks for each subject ? I prefer studying of others notes anyway

no lol

have a look on facebook groups/gumtree etc

most people are selling "99% new textbook never used" etc etc for courses at nearly RRP. They never used it because they didn't really need it for the course

just go to the first lecture or watch online or find out from a friend whatever on if you should buy it or not. for math courses etc there are a lot of youtube videos and lectures do have consultation times so you can use those resources as well

Go to uni and get your ID card, just use an adult one. Have you looked at my guide?
Are there any buses to UNSW you can get where you can use a single trip ticket? I know they won't be on Express, but I really don't want to have to get an adult card at the same time as a concession card...

Racking my brain between MedSci at UNSW vs USYD. Anyone wanna share their thoughts of the MedSci program at UNSW before I pull the trigger on one?

Go wherever you get more credit
Sadly I'm getting barely anything in terms of credit at both. At most a semester but then I have to balance that with remaining FT which would mean repeating some anyway.

I would have tried out for science instead, you would have gotten most things credited and could have done a med sci major. At least ay UNSW

Yeah, I literally did not know what my ATAR was, let alone that it was somewhere in the nineties (no HSC). Once I got MedSci USYD in Round 1 I realized it had to be high, so I started applying for the ultimate course (Eng/Sci at either USYD or UNSW) and missed out on both, getting UNSW Med Sci. So now it's a toss up. /shrug

Thinking of sticking with USYD given it's literally 30 min quiet single bus ride to Uni from my doorstep. I used to be a proud eastern suburbs kid so it feels kinda sacriligious turning my back on UNSW. :p
