Hey,

I'm doing Croatian Continuers for the HSC next year. For each of the last 2 years there were only 8 students in the whole state doing the Croatian Continuers for the HSC, and I'm pretty sure my class is the only one in the state for the subject.

I was just wondering how the scaling will work?

What happens if there is like a 5-6 mark difference in the internal ranks of 1st and 2nd, and 3rd was close to second, but everyone below that did had a big difference. But in the HSC 1st, 2nd and 3rd all were very close and there was a big difference in marks in the others. Would 2nd and 3rd still be dragged down since in internal ranks there was a big difference. As thats my situation, as in one of the exams i screwed up, making 1st can a big difference on me, but in trials i end up comming first. So in HSC even if i can the highest external mark, would they still give me a difference of 5 marks from 1st palce.

NESA will try to reflect the mark gap in assessment rankings when giving your 'Moderated Assessment Mark'.

Thus, if the spread of marks achieved by your cohort in the actual HSC exam is very similar to the spread of marks from school assessments, then yes, your 'Moderated Assessment Mark' may have a gap from the highest exam mark that reflects the mark gap between your rank and first place.

However, if the spread of marks in the actual HSC exam is different to the spread of marks from school assessments, then your 'Moderated Assessment Mark' may have a gap from the highest exam mark that is unlike the mark gap between your rank and first place.

For example, when I did the HSC, my mark in English at school had a gap of about 10% from 1st place. However, in the actual HSC exam for English, most of our class did pretty good. Since NESA has to distribute the 'Moderated Assessment Mark' within the range of the lowest exam mark to the highest exam mark, my 'Moderated Assessment Mark' for English turned out to be only like 5-6 marks away from the highest exam mark.

As such, having a strong cohort generally limits the effect that moderation would have on your final HSC mark.

Good luck!

I got 63 in my first advanced English assessment and my aim at the end of the HSC is to get a Band 6 for Adv English. Is it still possible with this mark. Same thing for business.

Your ranking matters the most with internal assessments. If your ranking was low, try to increase your ranking with the other assessments. If it was high, possibly because the assessment was hard, and if you maintain a high ranking + do well in the HSC exam then you should be set for a band 6.

Hi, not sure if this is the right thread to ask this but I heard that you can remove yourself from the hsc honour roll. Is this true? Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks

Why would you do that? Your legacy will be left behind for the ages.

Yeah iirc some time during year 12 you have to fill out this form in which you can give permission for them to publish your name or deny permission. You could probably call them up or something and ask how to change it again if you’ve already filled out that form.

Ohhh thank you, I don’t want my name published either 😭 (looking at the bio honour roll lmao). Do you know where we can find this form?
Huh I don’t remember signing this form. Do you know where we can find it?
I don't remmeber the actual name of it as it has been quite some time but I do remember signing a form I think at the start of year 12 from NESA where you can give or deny permission for them to share data about you publicly or with other parties which includes obviously publishing your name and your band 6's. You should contact NESA or ask your school about it. Maybe it's all online now or something, after all it's been 3 years since I sat the HSC.

Btw what qualifies you to be on the honour roll?

The Honor roll is a list of distinguished achievers.
I originally thought it was people above 90 atar or so. Didn't realise it only required a band 6 to get on it.

No one gets access to you atar not even your school and they do not publish Atars either. They do publish band 6's and your school gets your marks but that's it.

There’s also an ‘all rounder’ list of students who’ve achieved band 6 or E4 in ten or more units. I would think most all rounders would have an ATAR well above 90, unless they did extremely poorly in English (which is compulsorily included in the ATAR calculation), whilst getting high marks in ten other units.
