Universities have been doing online interviews for a long time (with international students etc) and it's not as new as you'd think so I'm assuming they have many ways to skirt the tech issues such as rescheduling etc so I wouldn't be too concerned about it
ohh so true I didn't think about that, thanks so much makes me less stressed omfg

Hoping this doesn't break the NDA, but is the Newcastle interview more like an MMI or an SSI? They say they run an MSA (Multiple Skills Assessment), but I'm not sure which category the questions fall in.
Sorry but I think providing any info on that matter would go against NDA as it wasn’t available to us until the interview.
They weren’t very clear with telling us the formatting beforehand this year, bit annoying

I'm pretty sure this would be a breach of the NDA...OP could face serious consequences if they give any info. You might be better off having a look a medstudentsonline or medentry.

just saying, maybe ask 'someone' who will be nice enough to make an alternate/burner account and then post a 'private message'. surely, Newcastle doesn't have hackers searching student forums, much less PMs.

main problem is that the poster doesn't have anything to gain, so honestly, still quite unlikely.

guys just a general Q for anyone who's done med interviews in the past, when u get a traditional question (eg tell us about yourself), approx how long do you talk for? or do you wait for them to shut you up?

I didn't do a med interview but in general you want it to sort of be like an elevator pitch about yourself - summarising who you are, ambitions, etc, but also not be a detailed log of your life story

tell us about yourself,

"I'm a beast and I'm going to get into med after this killer sentence I said just now."

would about 1-2 mins be adequate...? Im scared of an awkward silence where they're waiting for me to talk more lol.
btw does anyone know how casual or formal we should be? I guess this differs between unis but how the hell do we show that we actually have a personality without sounding goofy af and making jokes.

Making jokes is perhaps not the best idea. Personality can be inferred from your extracurricular and whether u talk about tho Ng s as if u are interested and have participated a lot.

idfk I guess I'll just have to meet the interviewer and vibe check to see if they want a light hearted chat or something serious

Yeah I defs wouldn't recommend making jokes. They can see if you match with their company I guess through your motivations to work there, your values, your extracurriculars, etc

A suggestion (I’m not involved in med interviews but have been in several work related interview panels) is to broadly cover the question as you consider appropriate in 2-3 minutes (longer if you really do have lots of appropriate & interesting points to make) and then ask the panel whether they’d like more details in any particular area. This way, you’re politely signalling that you consider that you’ve answered the question but giving the panel the opportunity to decide whether to explore any particular area further or move to the next question. Since you are handing back the mic (metaphorically) to them and they have the list of questions, it ought to avoid any awkward pauses.

To answer your question in another post, jokes aren’t really necessary to demonstrate personality. My daughter is a kind & considerate individual who jokes very infrequently. She gave honest answers in all her interviews and got offers from all her first choice med schools in each state, but I should also say that she has been involved in a lot of extracurricular & community activities so she could spontaneously chat about a broad range of topics. A lot of applicants who’ve mainly focused on studying for high ATAR marks probably couldn’t have matched her range of experiences.
