Whilst ATAR + UCAT scores can indicate a shot of having a place there is also the interview which is just as important plus no one knows how they did in the interview only the university itself (which kinda safeguards them from any complaints or legal challenges).
agreed, interview is a major aspect at UNSW esp...I know a few people with not so great UMAT/atars who've gotten in (albeit it wasn't for 2021), they also have heaps of rural seats which might play a role as well idk

uh what
I got 99.6 and shit ucat (not exaggerating) and got an offer in the first round
as if this person didn't get an offer already, but I'm pretty sure they will in the next round, maybe the earlier round was strict with atar and not ucat, it's probs just the way UNSW is filtering everyone
May I ask what your definition of a shit UCAT is? The lowest for this round was 2960 if I recall correctly and I think it's a pretty good score. Are you a rural student/have bonus adjustment factors?

I've heard of someone with 99.90 ATAR and 99th percentile UCAT who didn't get a UNSW offer (at least for the first round). The interview thus seems pretty important - after all on UNSW's website it does say a high score in one (or more) components doesn't compensate for a lower score in another component e.g. the interview...

Under the Rural Entry Scheme the UCAT ANZ requirement, has to reach at least the 50th percentile to proceed to the interview stage of the application process. The Situational Judgement mark is not be considered. I believe for this year 2020 for 2021 entry a score of 2580 is the 50th percentile whereas last year was 2480. Also, other schemes have been introduced this year. This is the first year UWS has combined 'forces' with CSU. And there is the GWS applicant, Gosford NSW applicant, lateral entry, indigenous entry. IMO quite exhausting but necessary I guess because afterall its medicine. If you got an interview, that's good. :)
Is it possible to apply for rural even though u attend school in a city? I was reading the requirements and it said something like over 5 years residence in a rural/remote setting, which I have, but I'm now living in a rented house in Newcastle to attend school, does that mean I can finesse a rural application or no?

It is at least five years consecutively or ten years cumulatively so you should be alright, no worries.

Wooohoooo, so my aim of 99.85 and ucat of 96 should book me in surely?
Yes.
The cut-off for rural applicants is lower than the metro applicants. For JMP UON/UNE I believe the ATAR cut-off is 91.45. Only mentioning JMP here because you mentioned that you reside in Newcastle. Your aim of 99.85 will see you quite comfortable.

As for the UCAT, in reality MSO reported much higher scores this year & there is a 'jump' in scores too seeing it is the 2nd year of the UCAT (UMAT's evil twin) but saying this your aim of 96 will see you quite comfortable. UCAT scores of 90%ile is the aim at the MSO currently to secure interviews for metro applicants, rural again would be lower.

go for the best or nothing lolol why the peculiar 99.85

like the most common goals on here are 90, 95, 99 and max

yes, you don't want to be like my man @Speed’o’sound Sonic

went from "top doctor" to "top liar"

I see. I spent the bulk of my holidays doing UCAT apart from working and beating people in chess cause it shows even the best ATAR peeps were "totally screwed" when they got their ucat back.

Anyways, with Sonic, the dude I looked up to. He happily suggested that (this was during HSC Exams) that once results came out to students, he would readily post them on his profile. On the 18th, there was no sight of him though his "last seen" was on that day.

Two weeks later, he said "I've been partying too much, and got an ATAR of 99.65"

Everyone was happy for the bloke, until a friend and I found this: a website from the Sonic's School (NGS) that the highest ATAR from the 2020 cohort was 99.4.

https://www.ngs.nsw.edu.au/education-and-curriculum/academic-success

I then showed him the link, and that's when he privatized his profile, and blocked DM's from people unless he chooses to converse with them first.

I was wondering why he privatised his account...

Really!? I know someone with a 3300+ UCAT that didn’t get into Newcastle!
3300 is like 99-100%ile, considering JMP takes pretty much solely based on UCAT, how on earth would 3300 not make it??

It's a top down

The UNSW Medical "entry bar" was really high, which forced applicants to make a beeline for Newcastle medicine

Or they probably fucked their interview

If I'm not mistaken, 99-100 is as close as the best you can get? How does that add up, if they decline 99-100, then they surely won't take in like 95s instead? Im a bit confused :\

Remember kids, if you want to get in medicine, say you want to do medicine because your parents want you to do medicine.
