"Sodium ions are at the same concentration as in plasma" is obviously the correct one for Bowman's capsule, and is consistent with D.Which one is correct for the Bowman’s capsule part. And why are the others wrong
In questions like this, only one statement (of the three) has to be incorrect for the option to be incorrect.Which one is correct for the Bowman’s capsule part. And why are the others wrong
Aw sweet thanks jimmy
No worries! Why is that obviously the correct one? Do you know of where I can some reading on the concentration of stuff in blood and Bowman’s capsule
Most definitely not. I have the qualifications and experience to claim expertise in chemistry and in high school / some uni levels of maths. I have never studied biology formally, but I have studied science education and many biological situations from a chemical perspective. You do biology as well?
Yes, all small water soluble ions can move freely through the membrane of the Bowman’s capsule.Hmm, I’m not too sure about this one unfortunately. Sorry about that
Perhaps @Eagle Mum would like to confirm whether this is accurate?
Who ARE YOU?! Are you also a teacher?Yes, all small water soluble ions can move freely through the membrane of the Bowman’s capsule.
Amino acids are also small enough to get through, but as you’ve already stated, plasma proteins are too large to get through the intact membrane. When the kidneys become damaged (by toxins, uncontrolled diabetes etc) albumin is the first plasma protein to ‘leak’ through the membrane. It is the smallest of the proteins, but at 66 500 daltons, it is large compared to the ions (sodium, chloride, potassium, bicarbonate, calcium, phosphate, etc), to give an idea of the size of species that are selectively filtered or retained.
Not a high school teacher, so my posts may not necessarily match NESA curriculum.Who ARE YOU?! Are you also a teacher?
What do you do as a living? Is it anything to do with teaching even though you aren't one for high school? Not a high school teacher, so my posts may not necessarily match NESA curriculum.
Like a few of the older members (although I'm probably oldest?) who post in this forum, I'm just providing a bit of help, when I have time, and if I happen to know something about the topic(s). Answering questions in this forum is a bit more interesting than doing crossword puzzles & hopefully is of use to some students.
Eagle mum, for now.Blank who do you think is more powerful, you or eagle mum
Well,.. that might be identifying. What do you do as a living? Is it anything to do with teaching even though you aren't one for high school?
Of course, but be sure to hold onto that awesome dream! Me and my arch-nemesis Hiva also plan to become teachers some day too!Well,.. that might be identifying.
Teaching isn't my main activity, but I have done ad hoc teaching & supervision at tertiary & post grad levels. I am considering doing volunteer teaching at our local high school (the way other parents help with reading in early primary, but at the other end of schooling as I think it would make better use of my skills), but can't really make regular commitments until my youngest has finished high school.
I have no intention of retraining as a teacher at my age. Besides, a teaching position would entail a high administrative burden. I have to deal with that in my current occupation - when I volunteer, I can focus mainly on teaching.Of course, but be sure to hold onto that awesome dream! That makes sense, the more time goes by, the less obligations you want to hold - that's the same for me. Either way, just do what your want with complete honesty to yourself, that's all.I have no intention of retraining as a teacher at my age.
