Its only for SDBECs that are affected. Mainly private schools that run like their own subjects e.g. religious classes will be affected.

Interesting you can now major in secular humanism/atheism if you take all these new electives

Expecting backlash from private schools though.

religious classes in my school are incredibly repetitive and a bludge for kids to bring their rank up so they can get into the top classes

also now i can disrupt my religion classes by bringing this up to my teacher who will rant angrily about it... disrupting the class... ahahahhaa

Improve your essay-writing; focus on how to develop good paragraphs etc Improve your english skills and you should find exams to be way more easier as long responses/short responses become more familiar. For these subjects you just have to rote learn again, I doubt there's a "conceptual" way out, you just have to pay attention in class and take down notes and then compile these facts into a sheet so you can memorise them before the exam.

I don't know how I did good in these subjects but I would say it mainly just came down to the essay structure and I was able to answer "Explain" or "Evaluate" questions as I knew what the appropriate format was for each response. I can't really give any advice since I didn't really put any effort into these subjects, I just paid attention in class and I guess through that I was able to remember more content.

They don't exactly say they are removing commerce but I think its implied with their "reform" and these being the options.

Yeah I guess so, possibly closest thing to commerce would be "international studies" but that doesnt even seem like commerce even then.

IDK what they're doing, commerce was a staple elective and lot of people from my school enjoyed it. It actually was the only elective to help provide some prior knowledge to the HSC subjects; business, legal and eco but I guess they are experimenting with the electives.

Pretty sure iSTEM was a previous elective, it was pretty okay when I did it, pretty sure its just dumped down engineering studies but for yr 8-9s lol.. Psychology and philosophy seem fun. I have mixed reactions to this reforms but its whatever.

Yeah psychology is just something interesting in general, didn't have the chance to do it though. I'm sure with this reform that a lot of schools will adopt this elective and it would be the popular one. I'm sure some teachers would be thrilled to teach it but I felt as if they should've kept a commerce-type elective because at least other electives were sorta in each of the new ones.

yea but commerce was the really lit one. By removing it subjects like legal, eco and business would be foreign to students. Also psychology has an issue because who can teach it? it's like engineering studies... no engineer would teach it. no psychologist would teach this because they can work in industry and get paid 6 figures

lol the recent HSC syllabus update was the first major change in 20 years...

There's got to be a good reason why it didn't change for 20 years prior am I right? The old syllabus was tougher and personally I think the topics flowed pretty nicely with each other.

Commerce was a popular elective and I had really good memories in the class, it was so chill and we did so much interactive shit. Im pretty sure we went to Parliament once or something like that and it was mad. Its such a good subject because it was always changing so you would do legal one term, then flip to business and in that way you would constantly enjoy it. They just completely removed it and I'm surprised no one on the board considered how good it was because you developed your essay writing skills a lot while doing the course and you get so much prior knowledge that makes introductory topics such as Eco or Business easy; like I didn't even need to study that much for Bus. and Eco because I already had notes about those topics we learnt in class. That's honestly my only rant for the elective reforms, everything else seems nice. Maybe its better for the elective to be removed and I'm just biased but I thought it actually helped for adjusting to year 11 since I could study less for Bus. and Eco. . I would've been okay with the decision if they put some elements in some electives

Psych and philosophy as main electives seem really cool; lucky everyone who's doing that.

Old syllabus had more history than science. The reason they changed it is because it was useless for university.

In relation to maths. But the new science syllabus has a little too much working scientifically for my liking. A teacher told me it’s like 70% working scientifically 30% content and calculations. Yeah I agree the history stuff is kinda shit. It’s still part of mod 7 and mod 8 for phys but it’s an alright amount. I’ve heard from many people that the old Chem and phys syllabus actually flowed a lot nicer in terms of understanding in comparison to current syllabus. @CM_Tutor and @jazz519 for confirmation. But that’s what I’ve heard.

math syllabus is aligned with uni math for courses like engineering and comp sci and stuff. Aint no body need circle geo or focus of parabola in comp sci or something like that
