none of the options are correct, hence it can't be done

those who responded with B got the mark but that is incorrect too.
bruh how does that happen I thought AT LEAST for a math exam they'd always have right answers lmao

there were several questions redacted, not just this one.

sorry about the deviousness but that pales into insignificance to the horrendous comment attacking one of the authors of the critique i posted earlier

"I feel sorry for your daughters if they have you as their father"

it was precisely that critique that led to the review resulting in it being redacted!

but it mentions that the roots a, b and c are complex roots
If a=1, b=2, c=3, the roots would be real?
Unless you are delving into "maths politics" which states that real numbers are technically a subset of complex numbers or something iirc but tbh i feel like common sense would make it pr clear that they wanted b...

would u agree with this:

anyway the original version of the external assessment report has this:

and the updated version at https://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/Documents/exams/mathematics/2022/2022specmaths2-report.docx has this

needless to say a non-response would get 0 marks, yet in this case a non-response is the correct answer!

ig it would depend if you consider complex as needing to have a non-zero real and imaginary part, but they gave im(b) = 0 so that definition doesn't work here anyway

Yes I do agree.
The question was worded incorrectly (should have specified that Im(a) and Im(c) aren't zero). But imo it's pretty insignificant. It's like the equivalent of an english question mispelling the word "to" as "too" or something in a way that still makes it comprehendible to an average student who knows their stuff
