is math ext 2 + eng ext 2 both worth doing? (1 Viewer)

I go to a top ten school, I've always been at the top for english so I wanted to do eng ext 2 (my ext 2 eng teacher is quite strong which is why i wanted to do it). However, I recently made improvements in maths, notably I'm top 25 for the last prelim exam in my grade so now I wanna do math ext 2. My other subjects are chem and phys. Is it worth it to do double ext 2 and either throw eng adv or chem. Also, if i don't do both ext 2 i have to stay in economics so its rly math ext 2 or economics.

i think its worth doing. its also probably best to do math ext 2 and economics for a bit and then just drop one or the other if you don't like it
you should also figure out if youd have enough time to at least do decently enough in eng adv/chem with that kind of workload

Consider that doing mx2 and ext2 will force you to stick with 12 units. This is because NESA forces you to do at least four unique subjects, in which the math and english extensions are considered a part of the math and english. Whereas if you pick economics as opposed to mx2, it gives you the opportunity to drop a subject. Make of that what you will but the decision is yours.

What do you want to do in the future? lean towards what will benefit you the most. Doing both is VERY excessive. i.e. i'm not aware of anyone (in my school at least) who managed to get above 97 atar with that combination. As someone who is doing 8 units (accelerated 2 last yr), I'm still finding it hard juggle all my subjects. I've seen similar experiences with other people. If you truely do intend to do 4U for both, be very well aware that you will likely have to sacrifice allot of your time.

I know two people who took both ext 2, and they ended up dropping one of them because it was too much effort. You can always just pick up both and try them out, because english e2 is a little different and shouldn't take too much time in the first term, but probably don't expect to be able to keep them both. Also, don't feel obligated to take mx2 even though it scaled so well, because it is a big time commitment. Personally, I was ranked top 5 in yr 11 mx1 at a top 10 school, but dropped mx2 after 5 weeks because so many people had planned on doing it beforehand and were VERY ahead in terms of content - it didn't feel like a fair game.

I wouldn't recommend sacking chem just yet, because you'll have to stick with it the whole HSC year, and who knows if you'll end up doing better in it or worse in another subject? You can drop eco now though, because otherwise it'll really affect your results next term (which are of course not that important, but still matter, especially if you accidentally flunk a couple of exams due to the workload).

I can’t say anything about maths, but English extension 2 is definitely worth doing. It takes out all the bad parts of English and you can basically do whatever you like. Also you have the entire year to do a major work, which actually isn’t as much work as it sounds (I wrote all of mine in the summer holidays). But on the downside it has the potential to either be really favourable to your ATAR, or not so much. And it’s a teensy bit dependent on the markers. There’s some themes that don’t really resonate well with them, but if you stear away from them, you’re good. I also had a really good ext2 teacher, who saved my life on multiple occasions.

I also don’t LOVE English, but I find it quite easy so that’s why I chose it.

Definitely try to improve in English adv as well cause it will 100% count towards your ATAR.

I quite enjoy english especially writing which is why I'm choosing eng ext 2. I also have a rly good teacher who's taking us for eng ext 2 next yr. Also, eng adv isn't mandatory for the atar? It's just the top 2 units of english so if i do better in eng ext 2 and 1 it won't count depending on my other subjects. For chemistry I'll try for the first two exams and see how it goes but my chem school tests tend to be pretty difficult so its rly easy to mess up and I don't enjoy chemistry as much compared to phys and eng which is why I'm thinking of sacking it.
