Haha, just an old memory.
Upon the installation of the DET filtering system i sent an email to the DET IT, telling them how much it will definately effect my learning, and how 80% of the sites i use for resource are now blocked for evidently no reason. I told them that this would have an impact on my learning activities, and it will reduce marks which i could have otherwise archieved more. No, i do not use it for facebook or "D4 Pr0nz". Upon receiving this email, the DET promtly went to contacting my schools principal and informing him of my "harrassment" of DET personel in relation to my complaints. They also requested that my internet access be denied for some time. However, my principal saw this as less-than-fit punishment, and i almost was suspended for complaining about something i did not like.

Yay for democracy.

I think the new filtering system is terrible. I can't even do half my work because 99% of the sites that I need to use are blocked. It is very annoying trying to finish a major SC assignment when half the sites you want to use are all blocked. :burn:

pretty sure its standardised, and that it's just a big blacklist that gets (automatically? manually? i've definitely used sites that were previously unblocked, but after a few days/weeks of usage, were blocked) updated every so often to remove non-school related websites

As you can imagine, the digital infrastructure of DETNSW has improved significantly since checks notes two thousand and NINE

Yh all public and selective schools in nsw use the same wifi and filtering system. it's certainly better now than what people were saying in this thread

I think it's a black list of categories. And some websites are blocked by the Dept. of Education directly.

Maybe some of you could get your parents on to it: nothing teachers say has any impact!

I teach Studies of Religion and have difficulty accessing so many sites that it is not funny - even Moses! By the time I get the web addresses from the students, contact the department and have the sites unblocked (because none of them should have been blocked in the first place) it is too late.

They want education to enter the new technology age - but won't allow the technology!

Same in my religion classes- the teacher can't access anything that he wants to!
