Bio r1 year 11 lost due to a depth study. I literally got rank 1 every single exam but the depth study set me too far behind.
the worst part is how much depth studies weigh, like why is the depth study weighted more than the exam itself? (at least in my school) πŸ˜… makes no sense

depth studies actually have to be ragebait, i remember getting 95% in a chem exam just to get the same rank as somebody who failed all because i cant write a good depth study without ai πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€ they're actually the worst
idk if its the same for junior and senior science but for junior, the science fac didn't mark depth study, so everyone just brought it in as extra notes

Make notes and revise on your own. For bio/phys/chem I usually spend 2 weeks in the holidays just taking in and noting down info and as of this year am aiming to be competent before I reach the 3-week mark from exams. After that past papers will carry the rest. Focus on quantity, record ur mistakes in another book and move on quick, don't brood over a paper for too long. I'm going to try start past papers in 1-2 weeks and am expecting like 50 percent for physics, but the point is that itll get better.
tyty, i've been writing notes for all three sciences for a while so i hope i will be fine about that when the time comes. also, do you do past papers gradually over the year or do you just concentrate them near exams

depth study this term for chem..... I'm cooked.
I legit just asked the guy who got rank 1 for chem and bio last years for his depth studies and got nearly full marks and am gonna use that. I've realised that doing everything honestly won't help me and this is my only way forward past these horrid tasks.
i think i got my first depth study for phys in like two weeks which then again is pretty light because mod 1 and 2 physics is just watching objects move so im hoping i dont get cooked up too hard

yeah those are useless. We had that last term and still got a depth study this term
bruh, thats actuals sad, honestly, they should just do away with depth studies. like i get you need to learn processing and stuff but you do so much of that in junior years, and senior sciences are mainly just content, if they want pracs, just give us chill stuff to understand content better instead of making us write reports and stuff

For bio i spam even if im not done cause its kinda common sense. But I do try to get theory done in holidays, practice questions by week 3-4 and past papers until the test comes then rinse and repeat for next module.
aight tyty!!

i really wish i made some connections with the class of 2025 from my school, im actually so lost for chemistry 😭
not that we get any band 6's in chemistry anyways, but i just wanna know why that even happens bc so many people did chemistry

I actually hate mod 2 physics thats trauma
ig, but then again, its just a lot of formulas and knowing when to use them, but then again, different schools probably go in different depths for mod 2 so yeah

mod 5 is chill
mod 6 is not so chill with titrations n shit
mod 7 is definitely not chill
mod 8 i haven't looked at much but it looks short meaning it probably pulls something like a mod 4

Yk what i think @ottowatta @f7eeting
Depth studdies are a trap to keep the cohorts marks closer together. Considering for physics our pass rate is really low and all the people who decide to do nothing all sit around 20 percent. In a depth study the people who we wouldnt classify as threats for an exam will obviously ai because they won't understand whilst most people who want to be smart do their own thing and get marked down for no reason. This closes in the marks making the cohord "less worse overall" which may or may not help in hsc scaliung(i doubt so). The issue is when you have the anomaly of someone at the higher end using ai or copying someone else's depth study to get nearly full marks.

It sounds silly but makes sense to me as to why I could never get good across 4 depth studies so far.
LMFAO, thats so real though, depth studies are unironically just take home english tasks atp

We did it in 3 weeks at the end of term 1..... I wasn't prepared. U guys have mod 1 and 2 combined so idk if that's for the better or worse. It is more content but less overall strain.
i think combining mod 1 and 2 is nice because the content interlinks really well so you don't actually have to think too much and it also reinforces a lot of knowledge

wait why is this the realest thing ive ever read, chromedragon, you genius!
i just wish they would let the kids who excel in exams stay at the top where they belong since the hsc is.. an exam

"hmmmmm I wonder how the student getting 30 percent for all his exams has gotten 75 percent in this...."
SO REAL. do they not find it weird that somebody failing an exam gets super high in the depth study??? it actually drives me crazyyy...
but at least after this friday ill never have to deal with a depth study again, i really hope this is a one-time thing. wait, is it? or do we need to do one for each task? :(

I hope u don't give me so many questions that the seniors just realise they have better things to do than yapping with me...... But yes, give them to me whenever and I'll convey not all at once but in due time
actually i take that back, i will be very minimal with my questions πŸ˜‚
tbh my biggest question is just if mod 6 is a more theory or calculation based module. thats all i wanna know

@ottowatta How are your classes now? Work easy? Good class? Good teacher?
i got lucky on the teacher lottery and basically got the best teacher for each of my subjects, and i supposedly keep them through to year 12 which is even better. the work is fairly easy although homework is much more plentiful than usual and its pretty bothersome with how much is given. i have fairly decent classes I would say, although there are some very interesting people in some of them. other than that, i think im going relatively well but only time will tell

i find it more leaning to calculation, but then again, i have like bootlegged home grown understanding of mod 6, the main ones as Ka and Kb and titrations

I feel like you could probably cook me in chemistry......... My bio teacher doesn't understand bio (I'm so happy she said bc i'm r1 I can do whatever I want in class instead of doing the lesson. (eve though I have to sit next to an eshay ☹ )) for chem my teacher is good if i can catch her outside class time bc she cannot control the class (I get moved for talking once when I'm doing hsc questions with a friend but then other students are jumping around the class being inappropriate juvenile) and physics actually my teacher is really good. ALl of this happened cause my chem class got combined, last year I had the same teacher for bio and chem and she was wayyyy better.
why dont i get rank 1 privileges (jk πŸ˜‚)
also i dont know why but you sitting next to an eshay is so funny lmaoo
i got super lucky with all of my teachers EXCEPT biology. i wonder what wouldve happened if i had a better teacher.. maybe i wouldnt have dropped
