HSC 2014 MX2 Marathon ADVANCED (archive)

Re: HSC 2014 4U Marathon - Advanced Level hmmm that's true and working from there would be no progress whatsoever from the original question would using the property that two perfect squares multiplied together give a perfect square and then working towards showing the product isn't a perfect...

HSC 2014 MX2 Marathon ADVANCED (archive)

Re: HSC 2014 4U Marathon - Advanced Level from a brief look at this and a bit of brainstorming, would you use the property of the difference between two squares so like a^2-b^2=(a+b)(a-b) and then show that (17m^2+4n^2)-(17n^2+4m^2) cannot be expressed in that form? i might have a better...

    HSC 2013-14 MX1 Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2013 3U Marathon Thread this is the more logical assumption so you would go with it imo would you say it would be erroneous to consider for part ii (in a situation where you weren't given part i) to work with 1-(probability of 3 or more black counters)? Should this logically give the...

    HSC 2013-14 MX1 Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2013 3U Marathon Thread Yep i was thinking it was a red herring, all you had to do was determine the number of multiples of 6 between 1000 and 9999

Anyone else get really annoyed at people who keep telling you year 11 doesn't matter and you shouldn't worry? It's like they ignore someone might want to always do their best no matter what the result might entail for their future

    Factorising non-monic quadratic equations

I would only use this for factorisation if worst comes to worst you can't get it by other means, otherwise inspection is usually faster and more efficient

    Factorising non-monic quadratic equations

essentially inspection just like you would for monic ones albeit with slightly messier numbers at times

Proposed directions for new NSW Calculus based courses

Yeah that is true it doesn't fit in too well with the other hsc topics (it might with the vectors) but why not teach it in year 10 and begin to incorporate it into some of the other topics? For example it can be used in co-ordinate geometry to find the area of a triangle etc. To be honest i...

To all my 2015 HSC BoSers

    1. Travelling overseas with mates 2. Medicine, anywhere, i'm not too fussed 3. Not as stressed as some others might be because i have to deal with less units next year 4. Have to do two HSC exams this year anyway so i should be 5. I want to do as well as i can

Proposed directions for new NSW Calculus based courses

matrices are actually taught at the equivalent of year 10 level in many countries, not to mention that some keen students here self-learn it, it is by no means too complex for the course

As said earlier 7-8 Anyone else stuck in the same position as me on whether or not to take up extension 2 english? My tutor rly encouraged me and i enjoy writing but im not sure if the effort required will rly pay off marks wise

Proposed directions for new NSW Calculus based courses

Vectors sounds cool, statistical inference less so Im surprised matrices hasn't been incorporated into the syllabus yet

probably not, i don't really care about open day because i went last year and i'm pretty sure i know what i wanna do already so i won't get much out of going again

Form an equation describe the curve?

PA and PB are perpendicular meaning their gradients multiply to be -1 so find their gradients using the formulae y-y1/x-x1 and sub in the appropriate x1 and y1 values, equate the product of these gradients to -1 and proceed from there (i meant y2-y1/x2-x1 but pre-emptively subbed in P(x,y) in...
