is ext 1 worth keeping ?

wait why is this in the English thread?

    max/min problem

alternatively, you could use the formula x = -\frac{b}{2a} since you're dealing with parabolas :D

    good luck :D

HSC 2012-14 MX2 Integration Marathon (archive)

    Re: MX2 Integration Marathon \int_0^{\pi /4} \frac{dx}{1+ \sin^2 x} = \int_0^{\pi /4} \frac{sec^2xdx}{sec^2x +tan^2x} $ \ \ u = tan x $\\ \\ \\ \Rightarrow \ \frac{1}{2}\int_0^{1}\frac{du}{u^2+\frac{1}{2}} = \frac{\sqrt{2}}{2} tan^{-1}\sqrt{2}

    HSC 2014 MX2 Marathon (archive)

    Re: HSC 2014 4U Marathon Using a calculator we have cos\frac{\pi}{5} + cos\frac{3\pi}{5} = \frac{1}{2} \\ \\ cos\frac{\pi}{5}cos\frac{3\pi}{5} = -\frac{1}{4} \\ $We use those to make a quad equation containing those roots, then take the quadratic formula and deduce that$...

Need help with partial fractions integral question

Hmm I don't remember the reason behind that tbh might need to ask someone else this (anyone?? )
  8. integral95

Need help with partial fractions integral question

    it needs to be in the form \\ \\ \frac{A}{x-1} + \frac{B}{(x-1)^2}+\frac{C}{x+1}+\frac{D}{(x+1)^2} times both sides by (x-1)^2(x+1)^2 and equate coefficient. So you start by getting 4 = A(x-1)(x+1)^2 +B(x+1)^2 + C(x+1)(x-1)^2 +D(x-1)^2 Sub in x = -1 and x = 1 (seperately) to get B...

I dunno about early offers, but you can still change it completely after your ATAR comes out

    Extension 1 HSC 2014 Prediction

heh and last year there were only 3 marks worth of probability allocated(and they were the easy ones as well), so chances are you'd have a little more.

    2o13 Q10

I remember drawing up a graph, inspected the values then test them in the answers given lol.

Do teachers universally follow this routine?

Just beware that class time is limited so you can't expect the teacher to go through the whole topic in detail and delve into the harder questions all the time, this would leave no time for the later topics. e.g for 4U maths some schools tend to rush mechanics/harder 3U (the last topics taught)...

    Binomial Question...

    I'll assume the question is nC3 - 2 n+nC2 = nC1 you need to use the formula nCk = \binom{n}{k} = \frac{n!}{(k!)(n-k)!} so you would get \frac{n!}{(3!)(n-3)!} + 2n + \frac{n!}{(2!)(n-2)!} = n SOlve for n there .

    Binomial Question...

    Mathematics (2U) raw mark

I thought it was the university professors that make the HSC papers. and to answer OP's question, it'd be like 95.

    Truth about video games

Apparently playing FPS games could improving your brain... .especially with multitasking.

Using complex numbers for solving partial fractions

it actually can be used (done a few examples of those in uni) , but i doubt HSC would give such questions where you'd have to use complex numbers to solve partial fraction. Wait, i dunno if the HSC allows this lol.
