What do you want to be when you grow up? Plans for after the HSC?

Re: the big question WHAT UNI DO YOU WANT TO GO TO AND WHY! for comm/law, it seems like the general consensus is that usyd has the better law school, unsw has the better business school, so it evens out in combined comm/law. anyone have any ideas or can share insights on this?

    School rank v HSC marks

yeah they take the highest mark, lowest mark and total number of marks, and distribute school assesment marks depending on both your rank and spread between marks. so effectively, in a class of 3, rank1 gets the highest ranked external mark, rank 2 gets 2nd highest external mark and so on. a bit...

physics 2008- einstein model of light

Re: 08 physics HSC exam- einstein model of light hmmm hope you wrote stuff about how quantisation of light allowed him to reconcile black body and photoelectric effect etc, and also the consequences of relativity (relativity of simultinaeity, time+mass dilation, length contraction)

    General Thoughts - Physics

ahhh it was okay. i totally forgot kepler's law (idiot!), used the t=2(pi)r/v instead, forgetting that v was different for both. what to do what to do. expecting around 90 raw, which should scale to 95? hopefully. and i added the earth's radius to the altitude lol. should i have done that? i...

    Band 6 cut off??

i reckon band 6 cutoff will be about 79-80, while band 5 will be.. say, 65-70? so yeah, ewasemma, im guessing a 68-69 would scrape you into a band 5, ie. around 80-83
  6. nicko1990

Did you find the exam Hard, Alright, or Easy? What band do u think u'd get?

yeah, agreed. they were pretty general this year ie. not asking to explain particular things. like for the scientist one, instead of asking for only edison/tesla/westinghouse, or only rocketry, they went general. ditto for the einstein one. which is why they might be really tight with marking...

    Estimate raw mark

two marks down on the kepler's law question (idiot!), maybe one down on each 6 marker, at least 13/15 for mc (15 if 5 was c and 15 was d, but you never know!), so i reckon around 92-94? that sounds about right. that should scale to about 95-96 shouldnt it? certainly hope so.

Legal Studies Multiple Choice Q11 - Isn't it Justice?

i think it's fairness, bcos rule of law relates to the EQUAL application of the law to all DESPITE inequalities such as institutional inequality etc. if the question said somethign about redressing inequalities, then it'd be justice. i just think its more fairness than justice on this one, even...

How much did you write for each extended response?

agreed. i can physically only write about 12 pages. dont know how some of you guys do it. hahas. if you look at the sample band 6 responses, they're like 6 pages each. i did 10 for workplace, 8 for world order. not nearly enough? :hammer:

    General Exam thoughts

it was so easy, i didn't have much stuff to talk about in the essay :). cos SOR has so little content though, it's tough to write heaps and heaps on it at the end.

    quick question

yer, you're right, it does involve a,d and t efficiency. but for a 2 marker you probably needed to explain it, ie. improve productivty and efficiency through deregulation etc. if you did that, you should be sweet
  12. nicko1990

what raw mark do you need to get a band 6???

yeah the guys up there are right, ppl here are those who actually care about their mark/UAI/whatever. ironically, if you did general, you'd know that standard deviation or whatever is most greatly affected by those in the mid-range, ie. those of the 50000 who couldn't really give a damn. now...

did u choose globalisation or $A

i think the $A question lent itself more to current stuff, ie. global influences etc etc, volatility due to IBS etc etc, while the globalisation question was basically theory-based, with not much 'new' info as such (except the $200b imf injection thingy). but either way, good essay's a good...

Number of pages of Ext1 English

I did about 14 + 14 = 28 pages. i agree though, that quality > quantity. just look at the high range sample response thingys, they're all about 8 pages each! RTFG critical was a little tricky.. while creative was *insert prepared story here*. which may be good or bad. we'll see
  15. nicko1990

    Estimate your raw mark

estimating 21-22 for critical, and 22-23 for creative. critical's normally my strong suit, but the rftg question was a little bit tricky. why they have to parallel the question for every elective is beyond me

    geo or physics??

hey guys, I'm picking 3umaths, 3uenglish, eco, legal, and one between geography and physics the interest is pretty much equal for both, but im slightly better at geo i have no uni plans as yet people tell me, however, that physics scale better, and i thought having a science will be a...
