    Private Vs. Public

I go to a private school. I don't think there's much difference, it depends more on your own application and the quality (tee hee) of your teacher.

I can't get out of the groove...

    hmmm....what happened to latin?

    NEAP Chemistry paper

but i don't understand why...what was difficult and irrelevant about it?

    Asamatopes -> 3U graphes....

Laz's example is v. good. I never knew about dividing through by the highest value in the denominator either! :) To find oblique asymptotes alternatively you can divide the numerator by the denominator (since the numerator has to have a greater power if the thing has an oblique asymptote)...

    Police Visit yet?

lol - luigi. I have even friends at trinity who'd support that one. :p heh: Newington last Friday was MOST entertaining... Milly and I were sitting in our second-last Latin lesson and I went off to steal some food for us. I'd just come out of the common room and suddenly a whole bunch...

who is absolutely sick of english?

heh, I was wondering that myself...perhaps lane is talking about english in general though, not the HSC syllabus. *thinks about the advanced english syllabus as a true study of expression of the human condition.* *barfs*

    NEAP Chemistry paper

hmmm...I did NEAP and I liked it. I thought it was quite relevant (although there wasn't anything on batteries and Haber which I studied to death). I didn't think it was too difficult, i just made stupid mistakes I am now kicking myself about. I don't know whether you all thought it was...

    Q - Shipwrecks & Salvage

sorry, my technical error about metals. I guess I was referring to metals in a more 'everyday sense' being 'brittle', seeing as even the iron we use in nails, magnets, etc are slightly alloyed. The presence of a small proportion of one or more additional elements in a metal can alter...

    Favourite subject

It changes. At the moment it's LATIN!!, but it usually oscillates between Latin and Cosmology. Occasionally it is 4unit maths, and extension english It is NEVER Advanced English :chainsaw:

    a controversial related text

That is probably very true. It shouldn't hurt to have related texts from a variety of sources and choose to use them instead of others within the syllabus, and one may as well, considering one has gone to the trouble of looking widely for sources. Bantering on about full marks and the like...

    Police Visit yet?

I'm from MLC Burwood. What school are you from? We do Trinity every year too, but this is the first year there have been repercussions. I don't know what they could possibly do apart from make the people who damaged the cars pay for it. It's not like they can expel anyone... :)

    Who DOSN'T do Physics

I only do 4unit, but i did physics (which I enjoyed) in year 11 and do regret dropping it, because I was doing well in it when I did. damn chemistry being "assumed kmowledge" for more uni courses...

    Police Visit yet?

We just had ourlast week of school and the police were in several times because a whole big group of us decided on muck up day to go and terrorise Trinity Grammar School Apparently a whole lot of expensive cars were damaged in the process and since the next day a whole lot of them decided to...

    a controversial related text

I am doing Gwen Harwood for Change and up till now I have used Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Game" as one of my related texts. I was wary about doing this, and asked various teachers about it. The general response was that there is no penalty for using a related text from the syllabus if you...

    just curious

I cannot think of any viable reason except that perhaps since practical exams are one after the other, a person might come out and say "the examiners thought I was REALLY good, they kept smiling at me, etc.", and it might make the people who are on after them slightly apprehensive, or the people...

    clutching at straws...

thanks Laz  Mil wow - go the brand new smilies!!! I wouldn't mind Latin being conservative for once, especially considering Mr M has scarred us for life with the Mountin' Men and Russian bear jokes... I wouldn't mind just :read: ing for a change - it is the language itself i love...

    Medicine

I am pretty sure at UNSW you have to go through the selection process regardless of what mark you get... they have only said that the lowest mark they will consider is a UAI of 95 to be admitted into the course. Hence, if you get a UAI of 100, you need to go through exactly the same...

    Is it worth it?

hmmm... do YOU think it's worth it? if you do, then anyone else's opinion is irrelevant.
  20. Weisy

    clutching at straws...

It is perhaps too much to hope for...but does anyone on this forum do latin at uni? ok...know of anyone who does latin at uni? know of anyone, dead or alive who ever did latin at uni? :D as somebody who is contemplating it, I would be grateful to hear your experiences
