    Multiple Choice

If answer wasn't D, then it could have been used to trick students I guess (which I'm sure they wouldn't hesitate doing).

    Raw for band 6

So no one actually gets a HSC mark of 100?

    Indicator Question

Did anyone write that because it shows different colours in different pH levels then it is suitable to act as an indicator? I didn't and I think that was probably worth 1 mark...

    Multiple Choice

Yeah I did the calculations and got B as well

    Multiple Choice

13 also asks what polymer was most likely to have been used in the manufacture of the cup, rather than what polymer the cup is likely to be made of. While it could be MADE of polyethylene or polystyrene, cellulose is most likely the polymer used to manufacture the cup. That's how I interpreted...

    General Thoughts

Question 5 was related to nuclear chem and isotopes, but to answer the question you didn't really need to know about isotopes and stuff

    Raw for band 6

But when a question asks for a catalyst, it's usually like Fe3O4, or V2O5, so you tend not to think of things like concentration. I can see it being a common mistake (and a silly one too).

    Raw for band 6

Yes, the markers are so picky about certain things. Didn't write that the sulfuric acid catalyst needs to be concentrated? No mark for you.

    E4 cut off estimate?

I'm going to disagree with Praer. While he might have found it easy, I think most of the state wouldn't have fared as well as him. I'm not going to guess the E4 range, but I know it's probably going to be the same as the years before.

    E4 cut off estimate?

When you say E4, are you talking about 90+ HSC mark or 85+ HSC mark?

    Maths derp moments

11^2 = 144 in my MX2 trial. Would have got 90 without that mistake which rubs salt into the wound :( I know a friend who wrote 8^2 = 16, and he also drew a horizontal asymptote as a vertical asymptote, true genius style

    No more conics ???!!

This "rumour" has been around since 2004 at least (probably earlier), where people each year were saying "Omg next year they're taking out Conics???" But yeah, braintic is correct. Next syllabus is when things may change.

Strength of Gravity approaching centre of Earth

Yes I do, and he said that he'd be willing to give both of those answers as correct. That's true, but what it also says that the strength of gravity increases then decreases twice before going down to 0 right at the centre of the Earth. It does not go down straight to 0 m/s^2 linearly.

Strength of Gravity approaching centre of Earth

In the Half-yearly Physics exam we had, the 2nd question in the multiple choice was something along the lines of: "What happens to the strength of gravity as you approach the centre of the Earth?" The question involved scientists digging a long tunnel to the centre of the Earth and stuff, but...

    independant trials question

    1. Gravity = Gravitational Constant x Mass of planet / (Radius of planet)^2. If you double the mass, you double the force of gravity. If you halve the radius, you multiply the force of gravity by 4. Putting these two together, you get the force of gravity to be 8x greater on Planet X. Since...

    MX1/2u Term 1 Practice Papers??

Yeah, since schools do topics in different orders you won't get papers where there are only topics that you've covered (until you get to the trials probably, where everything will be in it), so just pick out trials and HSC past papers and do the questions on the topics you need to.

    Hey,

Someone probably scanned it and put it on the internet probably? I don't see any other way it could be online though.

    Time Management

Oh yeah, I think I have a fairly good knowledge about Complex Numbers. The first major problem was understanding it, but once I understood it I realised another problem was time management. I've also got a large number of questions that I have to do, so hopefully that'll be of some help in the...
