    Generator stuff

In jacaranda on page 140 where its got the determing plarity of a generato'rs terminals the current is found to be going from L to K. But then shouldnt it emerge from terminal A so terminal A should be positive? Also if its going from L to K then using the right hand rule with current going from...

    a few questions on motors

For Faraday's discovery of the generation of an electric current by moving a magnet, whats the actual experiment? I seem to find two different experiments http://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/electromag/java/faraday/ http://hsc.csu.edu.au/physics/core/motors/2606/PHY932net.html#net1

    a few questions on motors

also with radial magnetic fields, when they curve the ends of the magnets, it says they do this so that the coil is always parallel to the field, and hence maximum toruqe can be maintained. But isnt the field like coming in at all directions..complicating matters ?

    a few questions on motors

quick q, the torque always acts so as to position the coil such thats its perpendicular to the magnetic field. at this point, its done its job and the torque is then zero, but the force acting on the wires is at its maximum, but its because then that this force is always opposite in direction...

When going up in the elevator shudnt it exert a force of mg+ma not ma-mg? anyone who feels they want to clarify may do so, i thought i knew this :/

Also, anyone know where to get solutions to HSC 2003, ive got the success one hsc book but it only covers 01 and 02.

Anyone know where i can get cssa 04 ? With solutions perhaps? Cheers

    Rocket Launch relativity

yes it says relative to the sun, but it also says it gains velocity relative to the earth due to the earth's rotation...which is the confusing part
  13. C

    Rocket Launch relativity

yeah thats what ive been saying...but Jacaranda thinks otherwise.... ? :/

    space dot point

thats basically what my question comes down to. how does that work =p and also, principle of relativity was originally put forward by Galileo so the einstein special relativity is just the addition that the constancy of the speed of light?

    space dot point

another thing, how did belief in the aether pose a problem for the principle of relativity? It states here: "However, belief in the aether posed a difficult problem for the principle of relaitivty, because the aether was supposed to be stationary in space, and light was supposed to have a...

    space dot point

    Ah ok thanks helper
  17. C

    space dot point

ok because one dot point says that a change in GPE is related to wokr done while the other says GPE is the work done to move an object from a very large distance away to a point in the grav. field. One says CHANGE while the other says IT IS. It's not contradictory ?
  18. C

    space dot point

ok so if gravity was doing the work, then as it moves the objkect closer to some planet or Earth the GPE is decreasing, as its 0 at infinty and negative before that. So looking from ininfinty, the GPE of some object towards the earth is getting less and less as we appraoch the earth. Usinng the...
  19. C

    space dot point

But we have said that its the least GPE at the surface of the earth...and it grows larger as it approaches infinity....so using the definition of GPE as the work done to move an object from infinty to a point in the field, what do you make of it now ? Im a bit confused.
  20. C

    space dot point

Sorry didnt feel like creating new thread just a quick question: for gravitational potential energy, its 0 at infinity and lowest at surface of the planet. so to move an object from infinity to soem distance closer to say Earth is going to take less work to move it over this larger distance...
