    Finance electives

Going into a finance internship I would feel more confident if I had done a few of these seemingly practical finance subjects (I left my finance electives late in my degree). On the other hand plenty of people work successfully finance without having any formal study of their respective...

    Worth doing Honours in Accounting?

I've considered doing honours at UNSW simply to extend my uni studies and to allow me to have a second 'penultimate' internship and have the opportunity to tutor students It's not like you won't work towards your CA the year after anyway..

    A question?

I think the caucasians stick out because we're the ones that always present groupwork in the tutorials - its as if the rest of the group telepathically agree that we're the ones to present the moment the tutors ask for a volunteer to get up the front ..

How can I get in Commerce at UNSW?!?

You should def. put BEco as your second preference as the degree is practically identical. Your first-year subjects would be the same as well so if you got your foot into the door and got a decent WAM then you could easily transfer into BCom (the only difference AFAIK is that for BEco you're...

    CA Achievers program - 2009

I'm surprised that they were that up front with you but you've only got yourself to blame... not that you were that keen in the first place but.. You basically just applied for a job and told them that your motivation is that you want a different job. Come on... honestly! If you were...

    CA Achievers program - 2009

You're sorta expected to make the effort and find out what careers actually involve. It would demonstrate that you're more genuine and prepared. Amount of knowledge would depend on your stage, e.g. if you're in highschool going for a cadetship you probably wont need to know more than a...

    FINS2624 - What the fuck

Spreadsheet exercises are there to make the course a bit more industry relevant. Just like the news articles and journals. These things aren't heavily tested (maybe a few questions in the midsems, dont remember it in the final at all) Again if you were working in industry then excel etc...

    FINS2624 - What the fuck

I disagree with the way the course is being taught at the moment, i.e. very late midsem, but otherwise... it's known to be a hard course. Keep that in mind and don't fall behind. Yeah people do badly in the midsems but every sem theres either easy assignments or tutorial participation to...

UTS vs UNSW Business vs Commerce?

Sorry mate, reality is end of the day UTS is an easier university. I was promoting that in UTS's favor in this instance. I know people who have switched both ways. The UNSW people did much better at UTS and the UTS people did much worse at UNSW. "All unis are the same" ? How is that...

UTS vs UNSW Business vs Commerce?

I dont know... I would argue that there's some benefit in doing the same amount of study and getting passes/credits at one uni and credits/distinctions at another. If you're not overly fussed about your education and just want to get through nicely, e.g. if you've already got a job or good...

    commerce (assumed and recomended)

You don't need anything, but 2unit maths would make life easier Economics from highschool does build up a lot of complacency ...

Go with your gut/first thought ... you're more likely to be happier that way..

UTS Business V UNSW Commerce (for a cadetship)

Haha you must have something up your sleeve! But I'm guessing its the fact you had early finance experience up front that helped you leverage your CV and get those bulge bracket offers. Somebody coming from a different background like the OP in this thread who is doing a cadetship won't...

UTS Business V UNSW Commerce (for a cadetship)

Yeah for accounting there's absolutely no need to worry about prestige once you've landed your cadetship ... but say you finish your cadetship and decide you want to explore the world of finance.. I'd be thinking UNSW background would be much more favorable, especially considering that you'd...

B Commerce (Liberal Studies) vs. B Commerce (International Studies)

No, you want to do actuarial studies.

    Accounting Cadetships 2009

Yes your textbooks are covered with the allowance... But your allowance is just assessable income, no different to them just giving you a slightly larger salary. It's taxed in the same way, hence keep your receipts/CC statement and charge them back. 550 is KPMG right? :P
