    USYD colleges - sleepovers

Particular colleges will have different rules but in general you can have whoever you like stay in your room, so long as they don't 'live' there. Anything over a couple of days in a row will generally see people asking questions. Meals for that person generally have to be paid for, and usually...

    Statutory interp recommendation (or none?)

You should be fine. To be honest statutes are not necessarily the most difficult aspects of law - reading and getting the law from cases can be more difficult. Also, my first year law courses hardly dealt with statute at all - it was usually caselaw (eg. Foundations of law, torts, even...

    Summer Holidays Chatter Thread 2012-13

Yeah my sister's arrived today. Mine hasn't though :s

Work at the Big 6 Law Firms

Variety of work depending on which area/department you work in. Most (all) have litigation departments (ie. you will go to court, although a lot of work settles before court, or in mediation etc). There are then Intellectual property department, banking and finance, mergers and acquisitions so...

Specific Qs on Law @ USYD vs UNSW

The new honours system at USYD has been touted for quite a while. Students starting in 2009 did know there was a new system coming into place. The new honours resolutions have been in law handbooks since at least 2009 and 2010 (basically saying if you graduate prior to 2013 you are in the old...

    Question about combined law

Your first degree doesn't have any effect really. I majored in Ancient history in a BA and work in a corporate law firm. :p

    Personalised Individual Timetables

As Trebla said, about a week before O-Week. Also all personalised timetables come out at same time - no difference whether new or continuing student.

Is it possible to do this?

In regards to the ability to do a double major in a combined law degree, it doesn't work because: A major is usually 36 senior credit points (ie. second or third year units) Not junior (ie. first year). In your second and third year of your combined LLB/BE degree you do 6 law subjects - which...

Apply for your 2013 Student Campus Card

Make sure you pick a photo you like. It will be with you for the rest of your degree. It's probably better you can pick a photo - I'm still stuck with the photo they took when I started (in 2007!) :p

    O Week 2013 - Sydney University

Law society is a faculty society. It's free to join a faculty society. I think business is as well. Others like debating you will need to purchase an access card. Sports however are different and are run by the Sports Union. You will need to join that separately to join any sports clubs -...

Combined law at USYD - Changing which degree I combine it with or the units

Um I can't remember - but for UAC don't you just put down 'combined law'? In which case you just elect at enrolment what you want to combine with? You can change the subjects from what you enrol in, however census date is too late. There are different cut offs for dropping a subject vs picking...

Specific Qs on Law @ USYD vs UNSW

For the past 4 years or so, no more than 40% of a subject can get above D (if there are more than 25 students in the course) http://sydney.edu.au/law/cstudent/undergrad/moderation_grades.shtml If you are alluding to the high-ish numbers of students that graduate with Honours (average above 75)...

Specific Qs on Law @ USYD vs UNSW

The Thai places on king st aren't that far up - definitely not a bus ride. It's about a 5-10 minute walk max. :) There are also stacks of buses that go from USYD to town hall/qvb - you can either catch buses on King st or parramatta road.

Specific Qs on Law @ USYD vs UNSW

I'm combined - almost finished. In 5th year there's no difference between JD and combined at all really - everyone is in the same classes. It is competitive - I would think it would be just as competitive at unsw though. There will always be people who are annoying and won't want to talk or...

Specific Qs on Law @ USYD vs UNSW

I got to USYD law so I can give some answers on that. 1. Marking: at USYD there is a bell curve. 3-10% HDs and no more than 40% of grades can be a D or HD. This applie to all subjects with a cohort over 25 people. HDs are not unheard of, you just have to be in the top 3%. HD averages on the...

How many days do you go to uni?

I'm in 2 days a week. All law classes in 4th and 5th year are structured as 2 2 hr seminars a week (either mon/wed or tues/thurs). So it's either two days a week or 4 days a week, depending on what subjects you Choose.

Arts at USYD or Arts/Laws at MACQ

It doesn't for USYD because USYD automatically puts you in lectures. You just pick your subjects and it's fine. However not sure how Macquarie does their timetabling. Perhaps ask a specific question on the macq forum.

    B Arts (advanced) (honours)

    1. Pretty sure you can't transfer to ba(advanced)/law. It wouldnt work at all with the structure of BA advanced (because you wouldt have enough years left - you dont do law subjects in an honours year. You would also unlikely to have enough subjects within the structure of the degree to do it...

Arts at USYD or Arts/Laws at MACQ

there's no full fee for undergrad degrees anymore. Just csp/hecs.

Arts at USYD or Arts/Laws at MACQ

What history are you interested in? USYD has good modern history department and good ancient history but it's ancient history is all classics (Rome and Greece). If you want to study ancient Egypt etc Macquarie is the best. Re uni's I don't think USYD and unsw dominate law in regards to...
