a late round offer for actuarial studies

Agreed the structure of the actuarial course is very rigid. But if it's what you want to do then go for it.

    Investment Banking

Comm/Law is enough but you need to be SMART, (not just book smart). And you should have a very competitive mind to even have a chance in this field. Major brokers and large banks hire IBs. VERY long hours are part of the profession. Social life is what you make of it but you might be...

    Anything replacing the SAM card?

No talk about SAM card. Only a campus card sticker? http://www.student.mq.edu.au/enrol/undergrad/reenrolling/index.htm

    Electives

What's JPN123 assessment like? And is it hard to get a good grade? I haven't gotten a HD before and wouldn't mind getting one in my final year.

    Electives

Staying on topic of electives, any interesting 100 levels to do? And is there an easy way to check what subjects are available on tuesdays and wednesdays?

    Acst300

In general, don't do actuarial subjects unless you have to or you're genuinely interested and up for the challenge. The actuary lecturers don't set easy exams. There's pretty much no such thing as walking out of an actuarial subject exam thinking it was easy.

    Acst200

Agree that it was a fairly hard 200 level unit. It's hard to compare to non-actuarial subjects because the lecture in charge is in the actuary department and actually sets exams which THOROUGHLY tests your capabilities into applying your understanding. Reason behind this is because ACST200 is...

    part time or full time?

I was kinda doing that last semester. Worked 5days part time hours and went to night class. It's not worth it unless you're enjoying work or really need the money.

    bags

From what I remember, some chicks use a larger handbag, others have their normal handbag plus one of those canvas carry bags you get from cotton on or whatever to carry their books, some use back packs (which can look a bit geeky if you care). Some people even just carry a lecture pad and pen...

    part time or full time?

Hi, I only need to do 16 CP to complete my studies this year and my current subject selection has three 3CP subjects in Sem1 and three 3CP subjects in Sem2. I know if I do less than a certain amount of CP I'm considered a part time student, but is this per semester basis or per year basis...

    Health statistics

Hey people, Just wanted to know if there are part time health related statistic jobs out there? There's the ABS, Department of Health, CSIRO, but any other ones? And if there are people who are working in this field, any comments or advice please? Thanks

FUTURE PLANS TO DO ACTUARY STUDIES.....help...

The course is hard if you don't study or put in some effort. You can't fudge your way through the course since everything is very exact. If you're an ordinary actuarial student you will be fine. Keep up with the workload and put in your study hours worth. Just be prepared to never come out...

Regretting your course, regretting your choice of uni?

chucknthem: Good to hear you found something you thoroughly enjoy kow_dude: Yeah, that was totally why I was thinking about Pharmacy aswell. Non money focus. But I also heard that Pharmacy can be retail based since you are still selling products. But overall I think it depends on where you...

Regretting your course, regretting your choice of uni?

i know what you mean kow_dude....im in pretty much same boat except my course is too specialised...--actuarial studies....-__- mainly because i realized that i did not enjoy studying any of the subjects ..... with regards to the money focus of commerce....its going to happen and be the focus in...

really want to be actuary, need your advice

I agree if you have doubts about becoming an actuary, go UNSW. they have more options if you decide to do something else. Double degree is good in that you can have broader options. But all depending on where you want to head. Also look up on what an actuary does as part of their jobs. See if...

    Masters in Biostatistics

Hello, I wanted to ask if anyone does this program? Since it's only a part time course, does that mean that people who study this are already working in biostatistics? If so, how does one find an entry level position to get into biostatistics? And how big is the course in terms of class...
