    Islam Discussion

Maybe you'd all feel that way if your country was invaded, but what if you were under the yoke of a tyrant interested in genocide and torture. I find it interesting that only a few seem to rebelling. All though the number is growing. But some welcomed the Americans too. Think on that. It's a...

    Does God exist?

You're slightly wrong. The texts we have are copies of texts written by four people who knew Jesus. The earliest of the New Testament copies date back to around 50 AD. Whoever copied them may been alive in the time of Jesus, or else their parents were. Scientists observe blackholes and they...

    Does God exist?

For Some reason you seem to have ignored the first line of my post, which I'll copy here: Perhaps you cannot use the Bible to prove the existence of God along your lines of argument, but bear in mind that the New Testament is the most historically preserved text and I think second place is...

    Racism in Australia

No, but then again that is a possibility. I was being a cynic in thinking that if something happened that bought us all together then it would be a good thing, but there was no good way to achieve it in the short term. Of course, for all I know, Australia wuld just descend into chaos. What I...

    Cronulla Beach Incident

The first time I went to do Tae Kwon Do I wasn't sure and I sure as hell had apprehensions. And I was a white fella in a room of other white fellas. I doubt he was worried about you skin colour. He probably saw you beating the shit out of some poor bag and thought maybe this isn't my thing...

    Does God exist?

Perhaps you cannot use the Bible to prove the existence of God along your lines of argument, but bear in mind that the New Testament is the most historically preserved text and I think second place is reserved for the Old Testament. There are 25,000 copies of the New Testament, some dating...

    Racism in Australia

Cynically speaking, now would be the time for Australia to be attacked by another country or for a major disaster to see if that would unite the people of this country. Terrorism is not an acceptable distaster though because it will have a splintering effect. It's said people only show their...

    Racism in Australia

Actually, not that I'll admit to watching Blue Heelers reguarly, but I was a couch slob when I was studying for the the HSC and thus watched a lot of daytime television. Anyway, Blue Heelers is set in the Victorian country and most country towns are for the majority white. However, there are...

    Multiculturalism

Well, the way it is now is that we have something akin to pizza. All these different 'toppings (cultures) on top of the base (Australia) with a lot of cheese around them (white fellas). And the cheese doesn't go overtop, it goes around (a very cheap pizza). Or, in other words, what we have is a...

    off-the-shelf library reads

If you want light reading then go with Douglas Adams. If you want psycho killer stuff that's probably trashy (but still good) then try James Patterson. I never buy books (something I'll change when I'm out of uni and have money) and have been frequenting libraries since I was a kid. Our...

    powerful books

I would agree, To Kill a Mockingbird and The Power of One are powerful books.

    Telstra and the Country

I hate to warn people, but did you know Sydney has a population crisis, a water shortage and sky rocketing house prices. So lets all move their and make it worse.

    Potential terrorist attacks on Melbourne

As was said by a recent comedian, if terrorists attack the Sydney train system who's going to know, it's in such a state now that they'd probably be doing us a favour.

    James Patterson Books

I started a thread on Patterson a long time ago and barely had any replies. I agree, he is a great writer, the only really lacking novel being Along Came a Spider (his first) since it seemed drawn out, but the climax was still good. I've read almost all his work, except the love story (Suzanne's...

HARRY POTTER & THE HBP - what did you think? (SPOILERS!)

Best book of the series. Surpassed OoTP, which surpassed Prisoner of Azkaban.

    Bryce Coutney's Jessica

Some of Bryce Courtenay's writing really disappoints, and his style drags his stories down. He seems to have a childish obsession with bodily functions and a fetish for obese women. Jesscia was one of his better novels at the beginning but it had such an anti-climatic ending.

    Favourite Character?

Marvin, from Hitchhiker's, is on the best characters ever.

Most annoying book of all time

All you people whinging about Jane Austen probably only did Advanced English and and don't know what real pain is. I read Emma in one weekend, it's nothing comapred to Persuasion, which I had to read for Extension English. It's so tedious that it makes Emma seem like an action novel.

    Potential terrorist attacks on Melbourne

Personally I don't see Melbourne as a great target unless it happens during a major event. Sydney, Brisbane or Canberra are the more likely targets. Brisbane because it's a holiday resort and Canberra because it is our capital. However, Sydney is probably the most at risk simply because most...

    Potential terrorist attacks on Melbourne

I heard on the radio that an American born terrorist threatened of an attack on Melbourne. What do you reckon are the chances of such an attack actually happening: a)In Melbourne? b)Elsewhere in Australia, and if so, where?
