What is the Band 6 cut-off

Yeah - I know I lost 11 marks at least, so that's 109. Hopefully i don't lose more than 9 stupid mistakes! Thanks for your help

What is the Band 6 cut-off

Ah cool - that makes me feel a whole lot better! Cheers.

What is the Band 6 cut-off

Hmmm...I've been doing a bit of thinking. I know that band six cut-offs for Chemistry are about 84-85% raw. 2u doesn't scale quite as well..so perhaps 87-88% raw? That comes out at about 105 marks. Is my reasoning wrong or stupid? 90-97, If I'm correct (which i'm probably not), would...

    Does anyone feel..?

Yeah this is how I feel. Esp about the working harder part. But you know what? What you did is what you did. The amount of work you put was the amount of work you were always going to put in. If you didn't work harder..... - well you probably weren't GOING to work harder! Be happy with...

What is the Band 6 cut-off

Hey, Just wondering if anyone knows what the Band 6 cut-off (raw mark) is usually set at for 2u maths. Someone said 110+, but that seems ridiculously high to me. Is a mark of about 100-105 + the usual cut off?

How did you find the chem exam?

Probably, though I'm not sure. And sorry - im dont know exactly what uac gets sent

    Answers To Difficult Questions

You had me feeling good for a second. What you say is true, but I think it doesn't apply to our exam. Because whoever was trying to find the solutions knew what which species were present, just not in which bottle. Ie. he knew that sodium carbonate was present, not sodium chloride, but just...

    Raw Marks?

Probabaly in the mid 80's unless there are even MORE stupid mistakes to be discovered. Best case scenario, 89.

    Q17

Barium has a green flame colour. Because the other two cations also had flame tests, it should have been possible to deduce that the last was HCl (which has no flame colour like you say). So I was pissed off with that question. You COULD flame test it. The reason it is unsuitable is because...

    Role of Chemist

Did it have to be named? Thankfully our teachers made us all learn about a research scientist named "Maria Skyllas Kazacos". She's real - I looked her up on google. We had a 4 mark question on it in the trials so my school was prepared, though most ppl did "luke" from cc tho,.

    Industrial Chemistry (Equilibrium model)

Part ii) got me as well. I was aware of the model dot point, but the only thing I could remember was watching some stupid video with people opening and closing umbrellas. So when I saw "risk", the more dangerous equilibrium analysis we did in class sprung to mind, and I think I...

    General Thoughts - Chemistry

Yeah, you're right. I wrote it small so hopefully they won't notice it.

How did you find the chem exam?

State raw average is around the mid forties. I spoke to an ex-marker today. If you can manage to get around 84+ raw, you will be in the band six range. The very best will be in the 92+ raw (they scale like crazy upwards)

    Module B - King Lear

You'll be fine as long as you teased out how these familial relationships impacted on the play.

What did you think of the chem paper? easy? hard? moderate?

I thought it was OK. Not too bad. Some questions were down right stupid (as in obvious eg. the solvay process in industrial chem). But on the other hand, some were quite difficult. (esp. the calculations...they were a challenge.) Most of my mistakes in hind sight have come from stupid little...

    Option: Industrial Chemistry

What ill effects does soap have on the environment anyway? I always thought soap had minimal effect, and its synthetic replacements were the ones that did. That led me to talk about them! Probably shouldn't have by the sounds of it.

    General Thoughts - Chemistry

The bicarbonate ion ACTS as a buffer. It does this because it is amphiprotic. I said the same as other ppl. Cheap/easy to store/ non-corrosive (so can be used in excess)/ does not spread like liquids / obtained as solid so easy to add.

    Industrial Chemistry (Equilibrium model)

I did the same - did the reaction of 2No2 <-> N204 There is a good chance we will get zero. But I have been told by an ex-marker that perhaps, depending on the criteria, it will still be possible to get some marks. If you demontrate correct awareness of a procedure regarding controls/method...

    Option: Industrial Chemistry

I hope I get at least a few marks. Who knows. The teacher I've spoken to thinks it may be worth a few, depending on the criteria. I don't know where BOS got that soap question from. The only dot point I found related is this: "Solve problems, and use available evidence to discuss, using...

    Option: Industrial Chemistry

Yeah the insolubility of NaHCO3 at low temps was about the only bit of chemistry knowledge required. Shame...there was so much more GOOD chemistry they could have asked about. Instead we get comphrehension, models and environmental impacts.
