    Option: Industrial Chemistry

Yeah - that seems to be what they were after. I talked to my teacher about it, and he said that you might lose some marks for doing a NO2 example. But he said, in essence, you are still demonstrating what happens to equilibrium systems in a clearly macroscopic way (colour change), so ppl who did...

    Option: Industrial Chemistry

I thought the Industrial Chemistry was very poor. The first question...asked you for the NAME of the Solvay process and the overall reaction. Sheesh. And the second part, bascially asked you how a solid substance is separated from an aqeueous substance. The diagram provided even had a...

    Answers To Difficult Questions

No offense, and you probably were more correct to say that, but if the BOS Chemistry markers will pay that risk more than nitrogen dioxide poisoning, something is very, very wrong. Why the hell did they put "risk" in there? It was a confusing question in my opinion.

    Answers To Difficult Questions

About the Industrial Chemistry equilibrium reaction. It said "first hand investigation" - our school watched a video of people putting up umbrellas and putting down umbrellas...now that modelled the reaction. Dot point 2(a) of the syllabus "...perform a first-hand investigation to model an...

    Answers To Difficult Questions

As far as the KOH question, people shouldn't have to double their answer as long as they wrote a balanced eqn. From the reaction, it was possible to see that 2 moles of KOH are required to neutralise one mole of H2S04 (same thing really). The dilute sample of H2SO4 was 0.0005 M (i think)...

Molar heat of combustion vs. Molecular weight.

Well...I'm not so sure about this question. It does to be more than a co-incidence that the people who chose to start from methanol obtained a straight line through the dots. I also read it as starting from 0 (though I think that's incorrect in hindsight). I felt confident in using a line of...

Molar heat of combustion vs. Molecular weight.

    Damn...didn't think of that!

Molar heat of combustion vs. Molecular weight.

    Incomplete combustion was my reason.

Molar heat of combustion vs. Molecular weight.

I am very worried about this question. I plotted it as dots, then did a line of best fit. increments of 40kJ/mol on y axis. But they were all over the shot. My line of best fit was just above the first two values and below the final value. Estimated propanol at 1260 k?mol. But then I hear...

    Ester's Question

That's true. Gotta love that about maths. There's a kid in my class, who is very unconfident that he has the correct method. So he does about 3 methods and crosses them all out, because he deduces he can score more marks that way than leaving one (possibly incorrect) without scribble!

    Radioisotope

Yeah, I think they are the best/easiest to do. I also talked about how they are created in nuclear reactors (tried to fit in tiny little nuclear equations) to talk about the social/environmental impact of waste disposal. Just wanted more space! Then again...don't BOS keep saying that "the...

    Module B - King Lear

It was still possible for people to discuss the play as predominantly nihilstic. Remember, BOS wants a personal response from the play, not a regurgitation of readings. People who simply regurtitated Eyre or something like that will not score well, unless they have personally engaged with the...

    Ester's Question

Yeah I did similar - put the linking 0 on an angle to show the point of connection and drew water as H - 0 - H. Felt a little silly about drawing water like that, though!

    Radioisotope

"If you are doing Quanta to Quarks or Medical Physics, this radioisotope stuff will still be useful to you, but I'm doing Astrophysics, easy but boring. I've got maths 2U, IPT THEN maths 3U . Then given the same 4 day break for only one subject ..." ------------------------------...

    Module A - Transformations

I had difficulty only talking about TWO themes to be honest. I wanted to talk about social structure of both, the notion of bildungsroman, and marriage and love etc. So I chose to "integrate" a few paragraphs on social structure into the growth to moral awareness, by saying that the...

    Radioisotope

Yeah that's true. But still...can't wait to retreat to physics for a week when 2u is over, depsite the need for miniscule writing.

    Radioisotope

Oh yeah the question was great (plenty to talk about). I just didn't like the space they gave us to do it justice!

    Radioisotope

Did anyone else find it difficult to frame a 7 mark response on an industrial AND medical isotope, while evaluating their impact on society, in such a tiny little space? Had to write TINY...though it was a little slack of them.

    Answers To Difficult Questions

"what was the multiple choice answer for the combustion one? i put carbon dioxide cause i thought thats always a product and was hoping on the technicality that technically its not water thats formed but steam or something lol" Carbon dioxide is not necessarily always a product. Incomplete...

    Answers To Difficult Questions

Here's what I got So2 = 2.3L chloride = 1.82 by ten to the four ppm (3 sig fig wasn't it?) volume KOH = 3mL Indicator = red to violet I chose cl radical as a cataylst because BOS chose to show it being reformed. From what i remember initiators can be consumed in reactions...
