    CSSA 2004 question 18

I hate the CSSA paper! Stupidest thing ever!

Did Michelson Morley's experiment disprove the existence of aether??

Might also want to sprinkle in a little about how the null result was such a blow to the aether hypothesis, in particular and to theoretical phsyics in general, that the experiment was repeated by many scientists over more than 50 years. A null result has always been obtained. And add a...

Plank and Einstein's differing view....A plea for help

Awwww :D Hazaah!!! The majority wins...and that's me :p ... (from one of the syllabus notes available on the resource page. Credit where it's due :)) Max Planck and Albert Einstein had been involved with each other scientifically for many years. Einstein had made use of Planck’s...

    CSSA 2004 question 18

Isn't this like a role-reversal of Einsteins train thing? Instead of the passenger seeing the lightning simultaneously strike the carriage at either end, it's the stationary observer that sees this happening. The passenger sees the front of the train being struck before the end. Both...

    things to clear up

You need to describe how doping changes the electrical properties of a semiconductor, relating it to the number of electrons and holes. When conduction happens in a pure semiconductor, the material is called an intrinsic semiconductor. When conduction occurs in a doped semiconductor, the...

    things to clear up

Yup! It's basically which one of the two types determining what becomes the majority/minority. Pretty simple :)

    things to clear up

P-type semiconductors: Majority carriers: holes Minority carriers: electrons N-type semiconductors: Majority carriers: electrons Minority carriers: holes

    things to clear up

To find the direction of the induced current you use the modified right-hand palm rule. Your thumb points in the direction of movement, fingers in the direction of the magnetic field and your palm represents the direction a positive charge will move.

Plank and Einstein's differing view....A plea for help

This thread's gonna make everyone fail if it comes up tomorrow :p Planck - believed that anything scientifically developed became the property of the state; there were no moral issues involved. Einstein - strongly against the integration of science and politics. Believed that science...

    Back EMF

Back emf is the emf induced in the coils of a motor as they spin in the magnetic field of the stator. By Lenz's Law, the direction of that induced emf opposes the emf causing the motion of the armature. The current generated in the motor is an eddy current. The direction of the motor eddy...

Did Michelson Morley's experiment disprove the existence of aether??

The idea was to measure the speed of light in different directions in order to measure the speed of the aether relative to Earth, which proves/disproves its existence. A null result was obtained and. The fact that there was no motion of the Earth relative to the aether meant that the aether...

    Cssa 2004

I wouldn't bother with CSSA papers. I did it for the trials and the questions were just wacked. Wording for questions was horrible and the solutions given wasn't all that good either. Do past papers - much better.

    I wished...

Didn't get any sleep either because I caught the flu off someone in the family. So I'm in the exam room coughing up a lung, eyes all red, teary and puff...couldn't even see the paper. :( Worst exam so far! This is gonna drag me down *sigh*

    I wished...

Compared to other papers...this was hard :( Fail for me!!

    Converting Trig

    Thanks a lot!! :D
  16. W

    Converting Trig

I hate maths so I'd blame by incompetence on that :p Anyways! I've never figured out how to express say cos6x in terms of cos²x. Help would be much appreciated!

    Mobile Phones

During the trials people were asked to leave their phones on the whiteboard bottom ledge at the front of the room. Except they weren't asked to turn the things off. So halfway through the exam, a phone goes off with vibration enabled. So it's rattling along the metal ledge. Carries on for...

    Simpsons/Trapezoidal?

Easy way of remembering the rules: Trapezoidal Rule: h/2 [first + last + 2(remaining)] Simpson's Rule (for 3 function values): h/3 [first + last + 4(middle)] Where h = (b-a)/2 They'll ALWAYS and ONLY ask for 3 function values. If not (and it's highly unlikely), just repeat the...
