    standard solution question

    Ohhh...oops lol My bad!
  2. W

    standard solution question

I'd just do what sub did but put a stopper on instead of using the stirring rod. Invert a couple times to ensure maximum dissolving of standard.
  3. W

    question thirteen

Damn it! I got the answer except I forgot to add it 21.0 degress to get 45.2 degrees! Argghhh!! I stuck in 24.2 degress instead :( So stupid!!
  4. W

    testing for phosphate ion

Chloride, Cl-: * A white ppt of silver chloride is formed when silver nitrrate is added. * A this white ppt turns purple or brown when exposed to light.

    Multiple Choice Answers

I did the stupidest things for the MC! Changed the answer from isomers to allotropes (crossed out the answer even for question 4) and forgot to add the difference in question 13! So I had 24.2 degress celsius instaed of 45.2!! *sigh* :(
  6. W

    testing for phosphate ion

Phosphate: * A yellow precipitate of silver phosphate of silver phosphate forms when silver nitrate is added. * A fine white precipitate forms when barium nitrate is added.

    refluxing

Alkanol and alkanoic acid are both volatile so they vaporise when heated normally before they can react and form the ester. Refluxing condenses these substances before they evaporate and allows for further reactions to occur. Something like that at least :) Edit: the sulfuric acid...

    Lewis acid/base confusion

Too late! hahaha...stupid Chemistry Contexts and teacher. I knew I'd never seen it before. Oh well lol
  9. W

    Hands up who's cramming

Just looking over notes and I don't think I missed out on anything. Made quite a lot of friends this year with coaching classes and they aren't "nerds" either lol. Got invited to a couple formals too and a halloween party, so no shortage of parties and whatnot...

    Microscopic membrane filters

    And yes they do :D
  11. W

    Microscopic membrane filters

Nope. Atoms and dissolved ions can't be filtered out by MM. Edit: Actually, they can. Nanofiltration membranes have special coatings that can remove some heavy metal ions and large molecules.

    Whats the acid?

    Acidic environment - Indicators?

    The importance of structure

Mr. Wheeler. Tall, lanky looking guy lol Pretty good teacher though :D Teaches at Pre-Uni New College coaching thing.
  14. W

    Mass

We still dunno whether it's grams or kilograms :p
  15. W

    Mass

When playing around with moles (not them blind, furry things...) it's in grams, but SI units are kilograms... ummm lol
  16. W

    Reliability and Validity

Reliable = method produces consistent results. Valid = method is actually correct.
  17. W

    Standards and moisture

I suppose you could say that, but more specifically about the substance being dissolved. For example, sodium carbonate and oxalic acid are both: pure stable un-affected by moisture (I'm looking for this scientific term lol) un-affected by air highly soluble in water

    Most common acids + bases

The molecular formula for citric acid's mentioned in the syllabus so...yeah lol
  19. W

will titration be on hsc paper?

Strong acid + strong base = equivalence point at ph 7 Strong acid + weak base = equivalence point at ph < 7 Weak acid + strong base = equivalence point at ph > 7 Strong acid + strong base graph: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v194/wind_/titration_curve_s-s.gif

    Standards and moisture

What's the right name given to the property of standards that don't absorb, react or change weight due to moisture in the air? I've heard a couple like non-anhydrous, non-hydroscopic and hydrolytically stable?
