    The official IR reform thread!

No i'm not talking about stealing stationary, i'm talking about confidential information that costs business money e.g equipment, client lists. It happens and it's costly. I don't have an indepth knowledge on Industrial Relations or Law, so I can only say with the short skirt scenario that...

    The official IR reform thread!

Well it's all speculation for the time being and there's an air of consensus from those opposing IR reforms that it will make the employee worse off when it comes to statutory entitlements. But the reason why i said there would always be dodgy employers and employees is that no matter which...

why did you chose the degree you are doing?

I thought doing a combined degree would give me a range of options and meet my interest in Commerce, the humanities/social sciences and sciences. Also the ability to major in 3 different areas was also attractive. It has but also it's shown me that I do have a strong interest in some areas...

    The official IR reform thread!

I thought the Howard has at least agreed there will be a minimum wage? Like a basic wage for everyone and that the AWA would not go below it (under IR reforms). Even so, that situation is likely to be occuring now for ppl covered by awards but who aren't aware of the award wage for their...

Are commerce/business degrees replacing arts degrees?

Hmm... well i guess you want to focus on are the applied and vocational elements whereas what i've been putting forth is more on the study of the subject itself (rather than application in the work context), the level of thinking and engagement in the subject. As you can probably guess, my...

    The official IR reform thread!

http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/working-mums-win-parttime-option/2005/08/08/1123353241862.html I wonder if these changes will be part of the reforms.

Are commerce/business degrees replacing arts degrees?

Like i said, my comment was based on my experiences so far. I wasn't commenting on the career paths, merely my experiences and level of engagement I have in the subject so far. And even though you say what I've done so far is book-keeping, well book-keeping is part of accounting. If it...

Are commerce/business degrees replacing arts degrees?

What I said: What i said and in response to another post. It was more to the comment that accounting opens the mind. I'm not saying that the career paths of accountants are narrow, but just that accounting subject I've studied so far don't get you thinking critically :)

    The official IR reform thread!

Generator, do you ever feel like you're talking to a brick wall? I don't mean it in a bad way but lately there just seems to be a lack of interest in this issue. There's not many ppl contributing to this debate. :(

Are commerce/business degrees replacing arts degrees?

How so? Umm... no offence but based on my experiences so far in accouting, dealing with Debits and Credits does nothing but numb my mind and makes me sleepy.

Are commerce/business degrees replacing arts degrees?

Fornstar, there are always exceptions. Not everyone doing Commerce have made up their minds on what they want to do. Also, a straight B Comm a Macquarie doesn't have core subjects. Subjects chosen are related to the intended major. On the otherhand, more specialised Comm degrees at Macq e.g...

What the hell is a minor?

I don't think minors are recognised on the plaque when you graduate e.g Student A is studying B Science with a major in Psychology and minor in Economics. On the graduation Plaque it will read B Science (Psychology).

    Complain about UNSW library

I've had the problem when trying to find journals which aren't available electronically. They're not on the shelf but if u search around on the book trolleys or near the photocopy areas, there's a chance it will be there. Does anyone know why the firealarm kept going off today?

I hope none of us cop this kind of crap

Well when you start working, I hope no one here hands out that crap

meeting people who have been screwed over by lawyers

Oh ok. Thanks for the list! But what I meant in my question "are most big firms like Clayton Utz?" was whether most big firms destroy documents and engage in other dodgy procedures?

    different law schools

The main differences between B Arts and B Social Sciences are subjects you study and subjects you major in. They're very similar though. Different uni's have diff ways of structuring their Social Science degree but usually they involve the study of how one studies Social Science i.e different...

meeting people who have been screwed over by lawyers

Just wondering, what is a good Law firm to work for? Are most big law firms like Clayton Utz?

    different law schools

Sorry Melsc, I hate to disappoint you but I'm pretty certain UNSW doesn't offer B Social Science (Criminology)/ LLB. You can check with UNSW but i'm almost certain it's not offered. You can do the normal B Social Science/LLB but Criminology isn't a major in the normal B Social Science...

Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing, Tourism and Hospitality Management)

Well the title suggests the marketing part is more focused in tourism and hospitality. Also, the previous title sounded like you would get 2 majors.

    different law schools

Hey Melsc, Does UNSW have Social Science (Criminology)/LLB? I know they have Social Science/LLb but wasn't aware they had the Criminology course combined with Law
