Personal research on IQ tests (proper and otherwise)?

most of ppl in my year stopped studying just to watch it hmmmm... not sure how that reflects on their intelligence

Do you feel confident about achieving the UAI which you are aiming for?

hmmm... i can't say i'm as confident but it's too hard to tell. i mean so many other factors play into the calculation of a uai other than your academic ability. for now i just don't want to think about it. how annoying is it you have to wait a day after getting your marks to get your uai?

    BEST STRESS RELIEF (it works)

mmmm... swimming is good exercise, especially during the hsc, is great stress relief and a really good break from study

number of hours study per day

i think the thing with motivation is it builts up as the workload grows. obviously you do more work when you have an assessment due etc. so i guess the best way to approach it is to give yourself stuff to do. eg. make notes or complete notes for a subject by a given date a lot of ppl don't...

Who has a REALLY crappy job??

lol, true but a lot of the time they leave saying "help yourself!" personally i'm not a big fridge raider but being paid to watch tv once the kids are asleep is a pretty good deal

What does everybody want to do and why?

i want to do arts/law at sydney.... sigh yes, i'm another one who's probably aiming out of her league i love the humanities subjects offered in arts and i just think law would come in handy for so many careers even if you weren't practicing

    Options?

number of hours study per day

i think it's really important to figure out what works for you. if you're a crammer that's fine but if you're not, don't kid yourself or you'll be in a lot of trouble around the time of hsc and trials. if you have to work consistently then do it and even if you are a crammer, that doesn't mean...

Your thoughts on the 2002 HSC

i think you've made some gross generalisations routemarker the hsc isn't about intelligence or about applying yourself in all cases. in general it does require a degree of academic capability but more importantly it's a matter of knowing what sort of outcomes you're meant to achieve and what...

    Changing self ... need help

the thing with newspaper articles is they're hard to use for substantial analysis. it can be done but it's not advisable if you want to get in the top band i know it takes a lot longer to study a novel or film but that's why it generally gets you better marks -there are more techniques, indepth...

    australia and imf

the imf affected us in the asian crisis by stepping in to lessen the spillover effect and prevented it impacting us as extensively as it could have apart from that the imf and aust don't have much of a connection. the imf have forecasted strong growth for aust in 2003 (that looks doubtful now...

workload - how heavy is the workload?

the workload is not that heavy it's a matter of knowing what they're looking for understand the focus on techniques and the HOW part of questions lear can be a bit of a struggle, harwood is ok after awhile do practice essays and you should be fine

    Changing self ... need help

i did harwood last year and my advice is that newspaper articles and cartoons aren't substantial texts. they don't illustrate the indepth techniques you get out of novels and films, nor do they allow for the same level of analysis read my earlier thread as to texts that work well for this aos

    related texts for revenge tragedy

imo you need texts from diff time periods/cultures/societies etc in order to effectivelly understand how the genre has evolved etc texts that i think are pretty substantial for this are The Spanish Tragedy The Life and Loves of a She Devil The Stars Tennis Balls Whitedevil (didn't use it...

good texts for telling the truth

i did frontline and while some ppl stuck to media related texts i decided to branch out- this is what worked for me; -The Crucible (the film directed by Hynter-- good for truth in the judicial system) -1984 (the novel by Orwell -- good for truth in terms of government and politics) -WWI...

    How to study properly?

i find a lot of it comes down to how you make your notes -ideally have a techniques focus rather than an ideas focus -come up with a couple of theses that you can apply to any basic question -list random techniques (eg. imagery in harwood's in the park and a quote) and then just manipulate...
