Yeah theres a lot of houses and apartments around the uni that are generally rented by students.. I know of several on Doncaster Avenue alone that are rented by ex-college people.
1) Theres a storage area where you can store your stuff over all the breaks, plus theres an extra cupboard or two in your room as well.
2) If youre a picky eater, yeah it would suck but most people get by ok

Yeah theres only co-op at unsw (no cadetship as far as I know?), and even then its not only with "big 4" firms is it? (correct me if I'm wrong). From memory its around 10 firms for accounting. Additionally, graduates arent guarenteed a job...

With careful choice of electives, I think you could avoid doing a lot of programming in comp eng and focus on hardware, but you will definately have to do some throughout the degree. Comp eng is offered with commerce

There are common subjects (eg maths, physics, computing) however you do have to choose a couple of electives in first year which should be related to the engineering you want to do
I think all the colleges will accept foundation studies students. However it may be too late to apply for most now. If youre a guy, you might still get into Warrane college - I know a guy who applied last year not long before now and still got in, you can apply online.
Why would students need to save money? Once they finish their degree, and in the case of co-op students, stop receiving their payments, theyll be able to get a job and earn money anyway... Unless youre talking about so they can make hecs payments
I dont know where you got that little piece of information from. UNSW had over a hundred people commencing software eng until a couple of years ago with a uai req at or above 95. Now theyre lucky to get thirty with a uai > 90
