    social life @ UNSW

Last time it was raining bad at o-week.. And I only realised that they moved the stalls inside the roundhouse until really late :/. Anyhow, the progcomp from o-week is really worth coming for (im sure there'll be one)

    C source code Beautifier

I used to use winsyntax everyday, but then moved to crimson editor. Is there any other editors that support view splitting like it (and textpad)? Actually, splitting to more than 2 sections (like Nedit) would be really cool, cept nedit dont work for windows :/

    a small, portable typewriter

yea true, i need those that are good for typing on the trains and such.. btw i heard putting laptop on the lap is not good for the p*nis? it causes burns or impotence or something? Maybe that's one of the reason i'll be getting a PDA instead.. btw i think ill take that translucive screen...

    a small, portable typewriter

Hi all, Next semester my 2nd year of software engineering starts, and I have a feeling that every time I spend on the train / bus should be used on writing reports. Now, I dont have too much money to spend, so all I would really ever need is just a typewriter (i mean portable computer) that...

A quick question about double degrees

I thought from a while ago there were some sengers who were doing seng/actuarial who posts in bos a lot. Its true that you should choose wisely, except in my case I found it hard due to my lazyness, and relied on luck to find a good degree. Now again, how good seng is will depend on my luck ;)

    C source code Beautifier

Yeah, I also do code using pico from putty. Mainly for compiling assignments. But man, text editors in linux are (not-user-friendly xor not-powerful). Nedit is easy to use, but not user friendly. Vim and emacs is the other way around. I long to use my windows text editors there :o

hey hey hey, more excuse to make tutors accept one-line C codes :D

    UAI a bit below... T.T

psst I am reading my haskell textbook, even now, i have it in front of my textbook.. but then that's because I am planning to implement a whole new language, combining haskell and C :D http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~ywid062/utslang2.plan Yes I am bored and have nothing better to do :p

    UAI a bit below... T.T

some people have nothing better to do ;) I heard AI and compilers and OS are one of the harder 3rd year branches from my tutor. But with perseverance and will, you should be able to do it well.

How does computer engineering compare and contrast to computer science?

Well, it would all depend on electives, since a hard compsci > easy seng, hard seng > easy compsci etc.. But for core courses difficulty, seng > compsci, since seng core = compsci core + seng additional cores. This is because other than mathematics 1B, seng core is a superset of compsci core...

Who likes going to uni on Fri?

I think we should create a gathering just before uni opens again, like the actual UNSW new year.. (beer, bbq :D)

    Transfer Rate CSci to CompEng?

I think he's talking about his sleepless nights trying to write seng workshop reports if this was an RPG, he'd have levelled up heaps after that ordeal ;)

CompSci vs SEng vs Comp Eng

Probably the reason there's not much binf is the number of binfers themselves. I think its <20 or something, and I probably can already name >50% of people who started BINF this year. A rare bunch =) * how many people do your degree - who you spend the most time with This year, there's...

    Transfer Rate CSci to CompEng?

and not get the degrees com engers and sengers do ;)

Query about Discrete Maths in Session 1

secret of discrete : no lectures + read lec notes + do homework + do past paper = 89 HD trust me!

Engineering -> Law (concerning the practicality of a transfer)

thats' true, more report writing and formal methods to developments. Around 50% of software engineering degree is devoted towards the actual computing COMP subjects. Supposedly, another 30% goes to INFS, 10% goes to maths, and 10% goes to SENG workshops. These seng workshops might only...

    Transfer Rate CSci to CompEng?

The only senger I'm aware of that regretted seng is the person who sold me the french dictionary. Everyone else seemed to like it, saying that the picture will come together in 3rd year, or something. Or maybe i just know too much of the smart bunch? ;)

    BE (Software Engineering)

basically, seng mentor is a group supervisor in the software engineering workshop courses, they get to supervise, and mark groups' reports, and sometimes brings candies at end of semester ;) hrmm.. i think it became kind-of a tradition, bringing food at every last tutorial, but its good :)

    BE (Software Engineering)

Just do the mentor program, usually the mentor has tons to say about unsw. Last time my mentor opened my cse account earlier than everyone else, showed me around the labs, the facilities, etc bla bla, while others went to do scavenger hunt. It was quite useful, but i have a feeling my mentor was...
