What UAI do I need to get into Medicine?

Perhaps 06's may want to draw comfort from my very rough analysis of how hard it is to get into med school. Newcastle & Adelaide- after excluding people who'd reject their offer, you'd have a 1 in 3 chance roughly. A reasonable UAI and UMAT will do for these two. UNSW- Something like 150...

    Bonded Medical Places

Ahh pointdexter I got 50k after considering CPI and the fact that you'd work and invest in govt bonds (which are as safe as the debt itself) along the way. lol at the changing mc answers! I'm still in two minds about your argument though. I'm quite convinced that most people would do alright...

    Bonded Medical Places

Buying out the contract costs about 50k (making fairly safe assumptions, see medstudentonline for my explanation there). As for the whole argument about intellect, I'm sure you can't be THAT stupid to do a university degree successfully; what interests me more is how successful med students...

    Bonded Medical Places

You had strong things to say too about med before you got in. =p Not that I minded, but heh... To the person who signed without reading it thoroughly... heh. Aren't we in for a fun ride. Back to my stupor...

    Why Medicine

"The most rewarding part was when he gave me my money." I love Dr Nick :) Kartman: You can give me the "I want to be happy" drivel but we all gave up on that at the age of 4. Money (and by implication sex and drugs) makes the world go round...

Laptop vs. PDA + Paper vs. Diary + Paper

There's been threads over whether PDA's are worth it, there's been threads over whether laptops are worth it, but pitting all three alternatives against each other once and for all, what do you feel is the best option? Thanks.

    enrolling in med @ UNSW

You're probably right. :p It's just a matter of wanting to overload a bit every semester to keep the option of Arts Honours open- 7.5 years is a lot worse than 7. Ahh well.

    enrolling in med @ UNSW

Re: Help!! Nit and mervvyn: thanks. By cap I meant as in you can't do more than 28CP in a given semester. Life would be so much easier if it was 30.

UMAT - Subtle Discrimination Against Asians?

Epsilon: studies done by the University of Newcastle (they actually split their cohort selection at one stage to be UAI for one half, UMAT/Interview on the other) show that there is a far greater correlation between UMAT/Interview and performance in the medicine course (measured by % who...

    Ext 2 worth it?

jpcg: The workload in 4U gets easier as the year progresses (I found the hardest topic to learn was complex numbers). Sometimes you need to back yourself and trust that you'll be good at what you enjoy.
