How Flexible is the RS Word Count?

For those only just over - maybe try footnoting the author of resources you mention instead of typing it in the body? I'm pretty sure that if you only footnote authors and page numbers, if necessary, that they will not count in the word limit.

    *salute* Here's my progress report!

Reflection statement is the hardest thing I have ever done. I am pretty sure that my work actually has no concept now that I have dissected it to death. Am 90% of the way there on word limit, but will be chopping / changing as long as I possibly can. Oh, and yeah, my total script is about...

    No idea. But good luck.

    Major Work Research

This is so stupid. I'm in a class where everyone doing short-stories is using post-modern techniques because they thought it would get them marks too. And I think it's a whole lot of bullshit, which is really one of the reasons that I'm doing a script. No extra marks for re-aligning your margin...

    A crime to be cliche?

In my opinion, this is death. I understand what you're saying about pretentiousness if you try and write about what you personally haven't experienced or know nothing about - heck, I'm in a class full of people writing Kafka-inspired existentialism and feminist appropriations of Joyce (both of...

    bibliography

Yeah, we were asked to do a bibliography with our reports, and just to stick them in the journal afterwards. Don't think it will make a difference if you do / don't - except maybe in the case of verifying authenticity in a marker's mind. With that said, I don't think it'll help if you're...

    CSSA 2005 trial

Hmm. Responders was fine for CF, bullshat my way through importance of conventions and value of each text and then crime fiction as a whole. Not sure about the imaginative piece. I was a bit caught when it said "issues" relating to CF - interpreted it as themes, and wrote about a racist...

    Title

Great concept. I'm writing a theatre script on a vaguely similar theme :) Have you read Alice Sebold's "The Lovely Bones" ? Could be a useful reference, although, I guess it's a little late now.

    Finished internal assesment!

I've read all of the Showcases, and from memory, only one or two short stories from the last four years has actually not used post-modern techniques. Some use it more so than others, some use it more creatively than others, but ultimately, you've gotta do something visual in your short story if...

    *salute* Here's my progress report!

Damn you short story writers! It's so easy for you guys - you just get to click wordcount :( I'm still really unsure how my script times. And I have timed it and it fluctuates a lot cause I have a large number of pauses, which can vary depending on an actor's / director's / marker's...

    Anyone not finished yet?

Ouch. I guess there's no chance she'll have the RS marked / back before it's due in externally, then? Try applying for misadventure with BOS or something, dunno what good it would do but might be worth a try?

Who got 99UAI+ & didn't 'accelerate' in any subject?

Nah. More likely they didn't cause everyone knows Year 9 is the most important year :D

    Something to think about...

Thanks to research from EE2, I take Real Inspector Hound as being part of the Theatre of the Absurd and closely interlinked with existentalist philosophy. It's actually pretty hard to separate "good" Absurd plays from existentialism - in the same way one could watch "Waiting for Godot" and...

    sub-genres in Crime fiction? Techniques?

Something my teacher told me: apparently, the examiners are disliking the use of the term "Cosy" Crime Fiction. The alternative is "Golden Age" which essentially means the same thing. I don't think it'll add / detract from your response if you use "Cosy" though, perhaps it's just that everyone...

is it 'illegal' to have my detective as the killer?!

The play is absurdist. The play is Crime Fiction. The extent to which Stoppard balances each of these, I believe, is entirely independent to each responder. Each person can read the play and see something different. This leads to interesting discussion and incorporates much debate about...

    For the stage scripters

I think there are heaps of screenplay contests around too, although from memory most of them are for feature length, like that Project Greenlight one. It was just pure luck that this competition had exactly the same requirement of 20-30 mins.

    For the stage scripters

Just interested, did anyone enter their major work into the Sydney Theatre Company Young Playwright of the Year Award? Here Entries closed on Friday, and my school prohibited me from entering my major work for fears of someone from STC spreading it. I thought that was ridiculously...

    Anyone not finished yet?

The Report at my school was simply "Outline the impact independent investigation has had on the development of your major work." While independent investigation is part of the reflection statement, I don't think you could just rely on your report; it requires a lot more depth, self reflection...

    Anyone not finished yet?

Actually, I quite like the idea of that. I think it makes way more sense to hand in the Report as the second task to show how your investigation is going and how it has / will continue to impact on your work, and then have the Viva as a "wrap" assessment task.
