    Genetics option

C'mon, my fellow genetics guys and girls, what did you all think of this year's paper? I was actually really worried and stressed because I hadn't really learned about all of the 8th part of the syllabus, which had never been tested. But nothing on that! :D *all info on HOX genes flows out of...

    How did everyone go?

Damn all that ag, the cows and the locusts! I put "arial photographs" type thing, which sounds really lame and wrong now that I think about it again. Gah. Other than that, not too bad... the influenza was a bit WTF though.

    Is this sufficient?

Well, still, it's a better technical definition, especially since I've fallen into the habit of answering posts with the 2005 HSC in mind :) But sex linkage is dead easy, just refers to genes inherited via the sex chromosomes. So if it's on the X chromosome, and there's no corresponding gene on...

    Is this sufficient?

DON'T say recessive alleles are only expressed if there are 2 of them... because what about sex linked recessive charachteristics? Instead say that recessive alleles are only expressed in the absence of dominant alleles.

    Hows your room?

Shit. Sounds like a "you know you have too much money when..." story.

    German Beginners

If UAI is suitable, I want to do BA(lang) and do German there. Else just do it via a normal arts degree. And I'm going on a yr long high school exchange next year, which should be awesome. I will come back babbling German brilliantly, I hope :D

    Hows your room?

My room has to be tidy, coz I can't study surrounded by clutter. The routine goes like so: wake up brief panic breakfast drag out all related notes cram exam come home, chillax tidy up room prepare to study sleep 'Tis good.

Bernstein and Bronski Or Inspector Rex

Well, if we're not going by plot, I must say, I like the one where they go skinny dipping in the lake :D I love the one "Freesien Kavalier" because it made me like the Robbie Williams song. Dunno, I like them all, really! You?

    German Beginners

No idea. Do you guys reckon it was easier than last year? What were your questions? I think continuers was far better than last year. More interesting too. Our reading bit was partly about East German men and West German women in love :)

    What are LOTE exams like?

It just depends whether there IS a background speakers course. Obviously for the less well-known/popular languages like Hindi or Danish or whatever, there aren't beginners and continuers courses, just a background speakers one for people who want their native skills to count for something. I...

I'm continuers, not a native speaker though. The trick is to listen to heaps of German music. But thanks :) Ah well, at least you had enough for a class, I didn't like doing it through distance education. But I still don't think you have anything to worry about, you're doing better than many...

That's a bit slack of your teacher. If you're ripping along and can obviously handle it, so much the better. And you will fall in the top band if you consistently + accurately use advanced structures, so you'll ace it mate. Good luck! EDIT: exactly, you've got it :D

Oh, think of it this way - if you say "IN ORDER TO" in english and it makes sense, use ZU. So I write this, IN ORDER TO help you. So use zu in "Ich schreibe, um dir zu helfen" If it doesn´t make sense in english to use in order to, just TO, or even nothing, then don´t use zu. So I want...

    Spiel

The modal verbs like wollen, mögen, können, dürfen etc. don´t need a ZU. So you say: ich möchte gehen du darfst nicht gehen ich will tanzen das kann ich nicht machen But, with other verbs, you need the ZU So like: Ich habe vor, zu gehen - I intend to go Ich bin gekommen, um...

Ich hoffe, ich schreibe nicht zu spät... Just use it like the friend OF THE mother. They all basically mean "of the". SoÖ The friend OF MY brother ist gay Der Freund MEINES BRUDERS ist schwul. At the end OF THE day I was tired. Am Ende DES TAGES war ich müde. Die Kinder DER Frau...
