    Audit vs Advisory

Even saying performance improvement means very little.. But meh. Go audit if you want your CA and some technical background. Advisory will get you a consultancy background. I'd say somebody with their CA in Advisory would have the best of both worlds.

    Audit vs Advisory

Its not bad to start in audit then move into advisory. Advisory in general prefers people with a bit more experience behind them. If you're def. not interested in technical accounting though, you can always skip the audit part. I'd avoid using the umbrella of advisory though... there are so...

Front-office salary - What should I expect? Newbie?

I know they work long hours at points. I'm just pointing it out very much the case of work hard then work little. It's all in fluctuations rather than anything consistent. I also agree that your estimate is far more reasonable as an average. I didn't say people average 40 hours either...

    question: the accounting hierarchy

Most partners aren't in their 30's because most partners work as partners until retirement.

Front-office salary - What should I expect? Newbie?

Redrum, I'm dismissing your post because I've spent time reading staff time reports and know for a fact that people do not average 55 hours a week. I'm just trying to understand whether you pulled this 55/hours out of thin air from your impressions or whether you're actually basing it on...

Front-office salary - What should I expect? Newbie?

That's rubbish. When was the last time you've looked at a yearly staff utilisation report for the big4? A senior manager or above, maybe yeah. But then saying most staff would do such hours is not fair weighting across the grades. Edit: Wait, were you the guy that works for EY? If you're...

    Accounting Cadetship 2008

For the ICAA cadetship evening at least (the one in May), the people from private schools go in their robes, whilst the public school kids go in suits. This attire is consistent for the big4 info nights, etc. Ultimately for the bigger firms especially its unlikely that anyone will remember you...

how much would a graduate broker get? say on a currency forwards desk?

Front-office salary - What should I expect? Newbie?

Only really in busy seasons, i.e. july, august and january ... I rarely see people working consistently late outside of these months. And to be fair you need to take into account all the time auditors can take off, e.g. when they don't have client bookings/finishing early on client bookings...

    Accounting Cadetship 2008

A lot of cadets doing only 2 subjects usually cram all their uni in the one day. So they'll utilise a minimum of 4 hours uni leave, plus lunch break, to leave at 12, then have uni for 6 hours until whenever. Then 9-5 rest of the week. It's not that bad.. Making time for yourself to study...

Cadetships aren't for uni students... so no. It's in May I think.

    Accounting Cadetship 2008

Doing my cadetship I had more trouble understanding financial securities, treasury etc. rather than anything accounting/economics related. A general interest in the business world is always an advantage. You'll be fine if you have this as you'll enjoy the insight you'll get on the job...

    question: the accounting hierarchy

They focus on ICAA qualified staff. Once you have your CA you're degree doesn't matter at the big4, they can send you overseas etc.

    question: the accounting hierarchy

Vacationer/Co-op student -> Trainee -> Graduate -> Accountant -> Senior Accountant -> Manager (only needs to be CA qualified from here onwards) -> Senior Manager -> Director -> Partner (at some of the big4 partner is split between equity sharing partners and non-equity sharing partners, so you...
